This was my third time staying at this place. Lychee hotel did maintain its cleanliness like last time. Overall I had a pleasant time due to its location. It’s incredibly close to the city centre. There are a lot of tuckshops nearby where I get my favourite massive fishballs! However, the room I booked this time was a bit small for three people - better for two. As the room was on the second floor with thin walls, I had difficulty sleeping on the first night, which was during the weekend. I could hear the kids/families. It was a bit inconvenient to find the reception. The reception moved out of the hotel (which I noticed this time), closer to the BnB hotel (sister hotel). You are expected to remember the password if you return to the hotel late, which I wasn’t told previously until I called the staff. The staff/receptionist/hotel was not clear about the cleaning service. Since I was staying for two nights, I wanted to have the room cleaned - I had the cleaning service magnet stuck outside. I returned after several hours to see the room the same as before. I had to contact the staff to understand what their definition of cleaning service is. The service needs a bit of an...
Read moreLooking for a Hong Kong staycation we booked 2 nights at the Lychee Sunset in Cheung Chau, having 2 children (8 and 10) we opted for the “family” room at $1500 HKD per night. When we checked in and got the room key we went to our room, our first thoughts were they had given us the wrong room as there was one double bed, a small sofa and a single seat, my wife went to reception to ask and was told it was the correct room and the small print states that the “family” room has a sofa bed, she asked why there were not 4 beds and was told “this is Hong Kong, read the small print”.||If you are planning a family trip to this hotel be aware that a “family room” is effectively a double with extra cushions for kids to sleep on. If you were staying as a couple only then this wouldn’t be a problem for you but considering the current HK restrictions, families try to get a break from the HK monotony, this place is incredibly overpriced for what it is, you would be better spending the money going to the Hyatt in Sha Tin which, at...
Read morePro: Very clean and new. Not sketchy. It is next to the police station, you will feel safe and legit. It accepts single person booking (most places in Cheung Chau do not accept that!) Hot water and strong AC, comes with clean towels, room cleaning daily, bathroom supplies. Nice rooftop.
Con: The wall is very thin, so you will hear people next door talking, their TV, their coughing (which was very gross during my stay) and some other noise from the outside early morning and night time, which is very unfortunate because the room itself is comfortable. However, the bed is quite hard.
Overall CP value is not very high for the price they charge ($680 weekdays/$780 weekend for the smallest room in the basement level) compared to other better locations on the island with views. But if you are looking for something very clean and safe, this place maybe a good choice. Quietness is no guarantee - it depends on your neighbors, not the fault of the hotel.
They no longer offer breakfast at...
