Sandbox VR - TST Store — Attraction in Hong Kong

Underwhelming as heck. If you own a VR headset or have a friend who does, don't bother. The experience was 90% the same as the regular Rift, just with a different game and a wireless adapter/rumble pack. I would have given 3 stars at a ~HKD$100 price point, but for the HKD$288 (each!) price we paid, I feel ripped off.

Pros: Staff were very friendly and even charged our phones while we were playing. Wireless room-scale VR is inherently fun. The video of us playing was super neat. Definitely my favorite part of the experience.

Cons: My controller was unreliable – more than 2/3 of the trigger pulls didn't register. The VR experience itself only lasted about 20 minutes. Lots of frames dropped during heavy action sequences. Game (Amber Sky 2088) was mechanically uninspired, although pretty. Pretty much just stand and shoot. The only novel mechanic was the shield, which was unfortunately impossible to reliably activate and throw. Visual quality was disappointing. It's 2020...Oculus Rift came out 4 years ago! Sandbox VR offers the most advanced VR experience in Hong Kong! There’s a variety of games to choose from, but we went for Squid Game, and we had an absolute blast!

The staff were really nice, providing proper safety instructions and helping us adjust the equipment (VR glasses) to our preference.

The room was very spacious, considering the size of Hong Kong, and being able to move around during the game made it even more fun. As part of the experience, a video is recorded automatically for everyone, which includes both in-game footage and live footage of us playing. However, the video is edited automatically, so you don’t get the full footage. I hope they can develop a system in the future where customers can receive the full footage, as the cropped version misses out on some hilarious moments.

Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great VR experience. Make sure to book online...

Edit: Was invited back cause of past bad experience and got chance to play one of the zombie games. Had a blast and game worked as expected. If you enjoy zombie game genre or first person shooting games than definitely recommend this place.

Old review: Terrible experience!! The game glitched for me half way through and was unable to enjoy from that point forward. Since it’s a multiplayer game it ruined experience for my co player as well. Staff was extremely slow at identifying the problem even after me trying to call for help. Staff failed to resolve the issue instead it felt like they just skipped us through the game to finish.
