This Japanese seafood restaurant, Nan Ei Sui San, is located on Level 5 of the Tern Plaza on 5 Cameron Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. It appears to be a Japanese restaurant run by local Hong Kong people, but the seafood seemed imported. It is a few minutes walk from B2 Exit of the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station.
We arrived at around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. Just take note that they are usually closed between 3pm to about 5pm I think each day between the lunch and dinner sessions. The last lunch order is at 2:20pm, but they serve things relatively quick. The waiter who served us was polite and friendly, which appears to contradict some of the other reviews I have read.
Ordered (total cost around HK$800 for two people): Ox Tongue: This is quite different to your typical grilled ox tongue you get from japanese izakaya restaurants as Nan Ei thick-cut the tongue and marinade overnight. It has a soft texture (compared to the slight chewiness of the thin cut version) and smoky from the charcoal grill. The fresh squeezed lemon went well with the tongue. Cold Soba Noodles: Properly cooked buckwheat noodles in a light soy sauce base with some fresh cut spring onion and wasabi. A simple dish, but done well. Deluxe Kaisen Don: Uni (Sea Urchin), Fatty Salmon Belly, Toro (Tuna Sashimi), Large Prawn, Salmon Roe, Kingfish with fresh wasabi and pickled ginger. Quite fresh and big pieces of sashimi. It was pricey but I think this is typical of japanese restaurants in Hong Kong. Deep Fried Oysters: Lacked the original oyster taste and wasn't as good as some of the deep fried oysters we've...

Their dishes that require cooking on the grill stove are ok, that is limited to easy dishes like the Crab paste and egg on crab shell grilled called Kani miso, clams cookedin wine or scallops.
Everything else is not. We had tiny portions of sashimi, sushi, tiny portions of dry blowfish jerky and diced beef. Quality was not so good either, one friemd had diarrhea immediately afterwards.
The worst dish is the fried rice which was not made by order but somehow heated up with too much water, like if its been heated up in a microwave. So it was wet with steam com8ng up and definitely not fried rice.
Staff service is poor as well as rude. BUT they do state they have the right to kick you out after 1 and a half hour.
We did use the 40% off code but I didn't think we got worst or less food than those paying 100%. Still expensive for bad quality food...
Read moreA nice restaurant serving Japanese cuisines like sashimi and BBQ (robatayaki in Japanese). Although there are not many items in the menu, all the food we ordered were decent with good quality -
