I recently stayed at The Kimberley Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, and while it offered a few positives, my overall experience was far from perfect. Here’s my detailed review based on my time there:
Small Rooms and Tiny Bathroom: When I first entered the room, I was a bit taken aback by how small everything was. The room itself felt cramped, and the bathroom was incredibly tiny — barely enough space to move around comfortably. For the price I paid, I was expecting a little more room to stretch out. It didn’t feel particularly comfortable for a longer stay, especially if you’re someone who values space.
Poor Lighting: The lighting in the room wasn’t great either. It was quite dim, and it made the room feel even smaller and less inviting. If you're someone who likes good lighting to work or read, you might find it a bit difficult to get comfortable. The whole space felt a little drab, especially when compared to other hotels in the area.
Decent Breakfast with Vegetarian Options: On a positive note, the breakfast offered was decent by Hong Kong standards. While it wasn’t anything extraordinary, it was enough to start the day off. They did provide vegetarian options, which I appreciated as a vegetarian. It’s a simple spread with enough variety, but don’t expect anything too lavish.
Slow and Rude Staff: Unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. The staff was incredibly slow, and at times downright rude, especially in the restaurant. I found it shocking that while we were still eating breakfast, the staff began switching off lights and cleaning up around us. It felt incredibly inconsiderate and made for an uncomfortable atmosphere. I’ve had much better service at other hotels in Hong Kong, so this was a huge letdown.
Location is a Huge Benefit: One of the biggest positives of this hotel is its location. The Kimberley is situated right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, making it incredibly convenient for shopping, dining, and exploring the area. The proximity to major attractions like Victoria Harbour, Harbour City Mall, and public transportation (MTR) makes this a great spot for tourists. It’s a lively area with lots to see and do, so the location was definitely a highlight of my stay.
Easy Access to Taxis: Getting a taxi here was never a problem. There was always one nearby, so if you're in need of a quick ride, you won’t have to wait long. It’s always a convenience when you're staying in a busy city like Hong Kong, and The Kimberley certainly delivered on this front.
All in all, I paid around 130 USD for my stay, including breakfast, and I’d say it was an okay experience — nothing extraordinary. The hotel is quite old and dated, and I can’t help but feel that for a little more money, you can stay at a much better place. I’d recommend considering other options, like the Mira Palace, which offers a more modern experience for not much more. While the location is great, the overall condition of the hotel and the service didn’t meet my expectations. If you're on a tight budget and don’t mind the size of the rooms and the occasional rude staff, it might work, but I’d personally look...
Read moreOverall, it was a mixed experience, with some aspects being commendable while others left something to be desired. Let's start with the hotel itself, it's important to note that both the hotel and the rooms have an old-fashioned appearance. One significant advantage that sets The Kimberley Hotel apart from other typical hotels in Hong Kong is the spaciousness of its rooms. Unlike many hotels in the city that tend to have compact accommodations, The Kimberley Hotel offers rooms that are surprisingly roomy. This generous space allows you to comfortably open large luggage and move around freely within the room. If you value a bit of extra breathing room during your stay, you'll find the ample space provided by The Kimberley Hotel to be a welcome feature. However, I did notice that the room I received was designated as non-smoking. Unfortunately, I had the misfortune of having a neighboring guest who ignored the non-smoking policy and consistently left their room door open while smoking. Consequently, some of the smoke wafted into my room, leaving an unpleasant smell behind. I was quite pleased with the friendly and attentive hotel staff. They provided excellent service throughout my stay and were always ready to assist with any inquiries or requests I had. One instance that stood out was when I asked them not to clean my room for the day. Despite my request, they made sure to place fresh water bottles in front of our door to ensure we had an adequate supply of water. This thoughtful gesture was much appreciated. Another advantage of The Kimberley Hotel is its strategic location. Situated in an area bustling with activity, there are plenty of options for delicious late-night eats just a stone's throw away. I enjoyed exploring the vibrant food scene around the hotel, and the convenience of a 24-hour supermarket nearby was an added bonus. If you're a food enthusiast, you'll certainly find this area delightful. not forget to mention the famous Dondonki just a few steps away from this place.
Lastly, The Kimberley Hotel doesn't require a deposit, not having to worry about holding fees is definitely a...
Read moreOverall, it’s an okay, decent hotel to stay in Hong Kong on a budget! Starting with the booking process, it was easy, but I tried to contact the hotel several times for some questions and I never received a reply. We got upgraded to a bigger room, so thanks to the hotel staff, in general, they were all nice. The room was quite spacious and newly renovated, so it’s a big plus. I recommend staying in the newer ones, paying a bit extra. We got some drinks in our fridge for free as well, you will get the basic amenities and flip flops, etc. Regarding the location of the hotel, it’s very convenient. You have markets, 7-Eleven, and many things around just in case. And the hotel installations were quite old but okay. Nothing much special. Breakfast was nice with several choices.
Now, the downsides of this hotel: Even though the newly renovated rooms are good, etc., it still feels not properly done some stuff. For example, you cannot control the light system, or it’s all on or off, not ambient lights, etc. The TV is connected to the lights, so you cannot watch TV with the lights off, and the TV is not “smart” (which for new renovations is not okay). There can be a lot of noise coming from the hallway. The door has a small gap which lets the light from the hallway come to the room. The windows are thin, so if you are in lower levels, you might hear the noise from the street easily. And a big minus, you cannot open or close the windows a bit even. And there is now view at all, just to the street. Another big minus is the waiting time for the elevators because not all of them are working and going to all floors, so sometimes you need to wait a lot or even stop on several floors to drop and...
