Sky100 Observation Deck is a very good opportunity to see 360 degree views of Hong Kong from up in the clouds, similar to viewing NYC from the Empire State Building or Top of the Rock or perhaps looking down upon Paris from the Eiffel Tower. However, the Sky100 experience is hindered by the unpredictable and inconsistent air quality and conditions that we face in Hong Kong, often limiting optimal viewing experience at this attraction.
This attraction, is located in the Elements Mall (Metal) area, found on the first, not ground floor. Compared to its international peer attractions, entrance queues are very short. Even on a weekend evening, we walked straight to the front of the line to purchase tickets before going up to the observation floor. With similar attractions in other cities, we've waited 30 minutes to well over an hour for ticket purchase and access to observation decks.
What we liked about the Sky100 Observation Deck is that they seem to know that there is a high probability that viewing conditions will not be ideal or potentially even poor. To compensate, they have very good information displays, touch-operated digital screens that are quite fun to use, free zoom telescopes for getting close look at the many skyscrapers in Kowloon and HK Island or boats plying the waters of Victoria Harbour and children's entertainment and play area to keep the kiddies busy. There is also free wifi here. Collectively, these inclusions help ease any disappointments for not seeing the lovely Hong Kong and Kowloon Skylines if viewing conditions are not ideal.
We also liked the fact that this attraction doesn't take on ridiculous crowds like what are found at other Hong Kong main attractions. We were able to walk around the 360 degree viewing area in peace, not rubbing or bumping shoulder to shoulder with others, are rare find in HK. We also liked that there was no limited viewing time, you can stay as long as you like once you enter the 100th floor.
Lastly, we were very pleased with the child-friendly nature of this attraction, making this a very good option for those bringing children to Hong Kong. Plenty to keep them busy while the adults spend time checking our the various views of the city.
What we didn't like so much was the weather. While not the fault of the attraction, it does clearly limit the potential of this attraction, making it something to avoid during days with poor viewing conditions, of which we have way too many in HK. However, with good viewing conditions, this is an attraction, you might want to move up the scale as views will be remarkable from this perspective.
We also don't like all of the lighting that is inside the Observation floors. This results in much glare on the glass, hampering photographs you might want to take. To compensate, many locals bring black towels with holes for their lens, holding up the towels in effort to block the backlight reflections. It seems they have no problem with you doing this at Sky100. Unfortunately, lacking an outdoor viewing platform, you are most likely going to get photographs with noticeable glares even if viewing conditions are good.
Overall, the Sky100 Observation Deck is a real hit or miss attraction, not because of the quality of the attraction itself or due to their operations, but due simply to the heavy impact of the air quality and conditions in Hong Kong. On poor viewing days, there is little point visiting this attraction. However, with clear skies, this is a very...
Read moreHavent been to the peak but this seems like a quicker and probably better alternative to view the city from top. At least for a person like me who dont want to take that slow tram and stand in wind and view the city from behind ( I think no fun watching IFC, BOC, HSBC, and nearby towers blocked by the residential buildings them, but again ive never been to the peak). So without any comparison, this place is very accessible since kowloon MTR station is just outside, the 360 view both from the foot of the building (some mall area) and from the observational area on 100th floor is worth the ticket of 168hkd which is cheaper to book online. Just remember the reservation code after booking and keep the card with which u paid while going there. For me this was the first stop in HK after landing, directly bought the octopus card and took the airport express, in 20 minutes reached here. So good way to start your HK trip by taking in the city view from top. Some cool things to do at the top. Souvenir shop(cute stuff at reasonable price, lot of options, lady at the counter helpful), cafe (maybe overpriced af, i got a glass of souvenir blanc at 120hkd), VR tour (took the hk experience which was really sad, 2D movie forcibly made 360, def skip it, staff was super nice though), printed photo (please dont waste money, photos looked quite sad). Can spend here almost 1-2 hours just going through these shops and mostly looking at the view. I wish there was more information about hk buildings and history written over the photos they’ve posted in there, but reading online beforehand worked well for me. Cars and ships moving around is fun to watch as well. Can be a good place to take kids since you can just leave them running around gather them at the end. Not the best, but okay enough place to take selfies with...
Read moreAs someone who recently visited Sky100, I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars rating. The observation deck offers stunning views of Hong Kong and the surrounding areas, and the experience is definitely worth the visit.
On the positive side, the views from Sky100 are truly breathtaking. The observation deck is located on the 100th floor of the International Commerce Centre and offers panoramic views of the city and its iconic skyline. The interactive exhibits and informative displays also provide an interesting look at the history and culture of Hong Kong.
Additionally, the staff are friendly and helpful, providing a warm welcome and answering any questions visitors may have. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, and there are plenty of photo opportunities to capture the incredible views.
However, there were a few issues that detracted from the experience. Firstly, the ticket prices are quite high, which may make it less accessible for some visitors. Additionally, the queues to enter the observation deck can be quite long, which can be frustrating particularly during peak hours.
Another issue was the limited food and beverage options available within the observation deck itself. While there is a café offering snacks and drinks, the selection is limited and the prices are quite high.
Overall, while Sky100 offers an incredible experience with stunning views and informative exhibits, there are a few issues that could use improvement. If you're willing to pay the ticket prices and don't mind the queues, it's definitely worth a visit for the breathtaking...
