Attended the latest Jazz Fest in Nov 2020. Music was good but the organization and spacing of the events and performances and accessibility and vibe was poor, compared to all the music events I have been to before. It’s my first time to Jazz Fest there, maybe it’s done differently or maybe it’s the coronavirus restrictions, idk.
❌Used to be very nice and spacious, and green. Now some areas of the landscaping is weird now and not very accessible and made hilly, and even like dug down to create a rock-like stream with no water. It reduced a lot of grassy and seats space and much more paved ground.
❌Freespace is not quite free, being now enclosed in a boxed shaped building.
❌The construction of the stupid HK palace museum cuts off the green spacious areas right in the middle, and takes up like a quarter of what the open space that many enjoyed before to be replaced with a huge view-blocking building that HK ppl did not even want. Adds so much pressure to what used to be a very relaxing space.
✔️On the good side is now there are restos on one side of the seaside and nicely designed, cleans and spacious bathrooms in the park.
✔️More parking spots available than before on the eastern side near the M+ museum construction site. Though still seemingly short of supply as the park wasn’t so full of people but the parking was full and long wait and many people just parked all along the roadside. Don’t understand why there isn’t a huge underground parking for that big of an area.
Besides those, the stars is given for the stunning view of HK, where you can see the sunset on the westside of the park and the beautiful harbourview all around the park is unquestionable. It is though still a quite spacious park in HK that...
Read moreThis lovely park provided the public an extra option for an idyllic weekend. Some complained about the park's location, but I wondered what more generous alternatives could our small city offer? It was at worst 10 minutes walk from the closest MTR station, if that was not a walkable distance for visiting a PARK, then flying all the way to Japan for cherry blossom should be an insane voyage.
Located at the harbour front, the park was especially beautiful during sunset - tangerine cloud permeated the sky, long shadow of buildings rippled on the wavy water, our time seemed frozen.
In recent years, the park started supporting Freespace Happening. It was a weekend cultural event integrating festival music concerts, weekend market for craftworks, local beers and workshops for literature, sports, pet training and etc. The event was free entrance and you could rent a cup and got some discount for the drink you purchased at specific stalls and showed your support on protecting our environment. Within the park, rental bike service was another environment friendly option inherited from the park facilities; however, if you really found walking to the park was beyond manageable, there ran a shuttle bus connecting the "nearby" M+ and the railway. The schedule of this shuttle bus was of course sparse, you might ask the staff for a timetable.
The Freespace Happening was not held all-year, normally it only held during winter time, when there was less rain and less scorching. Download an app "Freespace Happening" and you...
Read moreSpacious and clean public space. It took me about 20 minutes to get here from Elements. Should add more signs to show where the entrance is. I came here in summer and I just couldn't stop sweating even I stayed in a covered area. There was nothing here in weekdays, only one vending machine was working. If you need food, you need to walk back to Elements... You get a great view of the harbour here but the government should build more facilities. The park is just empty...
