I experienced terrible customer treatment while visiting the museum on 1st Sept afternoon. Apparently there was a camera crew moving about the galleries doing a private filming, and large areas were cordoned off and out of bounds to visitors. However, we were not informed about this by the ticket office nor the usher at the entrance when I bought my ticket.
This building has levels marked basement, ground floor, level 1, and level 2. While I was at the top floor gallery (labelled as level 2), I was suddenly surrounded by at least 5 security guards/ staff who asked me to leave the gallery because the crew was filming. When I asked the staff (a young man with glasses) how long would the filming be as I wanted to see all the exhibits despite my tight schedule, he was clueless and only said the filming was a last-minute arrangement. When I asked what exhibits were on the other floors, he misled me by saying there was more to see on ‘level 3 upstairs’ when we were already on the top gallery. Being there for the first time, the staff’s misinformation was very confusing to me.
After 2 minutes of unsuccessful clarification, I complied and went to the level 1 to continue viewing, but I noticed a plump male staff following me. I overheard him reporting out loud on his walkie-talkie to his colleagues that I was very ‘激动’ several times, which means ‘worked up’ and ‘emotional’ in Cantonese. For the record, I never raised my voice nor resorted to personal attacks. I merely asked for clarification regarding filming duration and the contents of the 3 levels of exhibits. Moreover, I went down without complaint and never engaged with any of the other staff until the unpleasant interactions in the following paragraph.
It is extremely unprofessional behaviour shown by this staff member on level 1 who followed and disparaged a paying visitor in her very presence. After his walkie-talkie exchange, I approached and highlighted to this plump male staff that this is not how guests should be treated - in such a passive-aggressive and disrespectful manner, when guests are asking reasonable questions. If staff lacked confidence in speaking to me due to their inadequate grasp of English, they could have relegated the engagement to another colleague. Instead, they cowardly vilified me in Cantonese not realising I could understand them perfectly.
When I checked with the level 1 staff member if the film crew would be coming to occupy his level as well, as that meant I’ll be chased away again, he replied in the negative, saying my experience will not be affected. Again showing how the staff were not adequately briefed and prepared, the filming crew indeed appeared on level 1 shortly after, sealing off half the floor when I am only half-way through the exhibits. In the end, I did not get to see one third of the level 2, and half of level 1.
The exhibit itself was pleasant, but the staff involved were unprofessional and dishonest. The bespectacled male staff did approach me afterwards to inform me that I can visit level 2 again, but I had to rush off.
In conclusion, the staff have shown themselves insufficiently prepared to manage visitors in such situations, and were not adequately prepared to initiate any form of service recovery. No apologies were given for the lapse in service nor the insulting words used, they had complacent assumptions of guests, and the entire environment made visitors like me feel unwelcome and alienated. I would not recommend patronizing this museum if such poor service quality...
Read moreThe museum is very educational and a bit interactive . Very recommendable for all ages especially for those car fanatic . We were warmly accommodated at the entrance by a Portuguese man and explained all the details of what’s inside the museum . We enjoyed walking around and taking photos . But one thing I just didn’t like was the working etiquette and attitude of the staffs. It seems like they don’t appreciate that someone is visiting the museum . They have the poker face , looks so serious , and they look very intimidating instead of entertaining guests , some others where just busy holding their phone , and when we were about to try the machine and stuffs on their area they will just simply walk away and seems like giving a command that they are not interested to promote those things to their guest . Very disappointing!!! For a museum like this we expect someone who is pro active , jolly , friendly to their guests. I appreciate more the security guards standing there and even ask us how we like the museum , is it our first time or which nation we are came from … but for those staff assigned on each interactive machine inside , I don’t feel and see any interesting to promote the place where they are working …. They were just standing there like a statue ! Tourism experience in this museum is NOT FUN at all not because of the display but the...
Read moreA stop by the Grand Prix Museum (free entry) is always a great way to spend 30 minutes or so when visiting Macau and is there any better time to visit then during Grand Prix weekend? We stopped by during the midday race intermission last weekend and, as usual, just loved looking over these fantastic race cars. They are so photogenic and nice to see. It doesn’t hurt that this museum is free to visit but I often wonder if visiting this museum will ever grow old.
In addition to more recent cars that performed here in Macau, there are some historical cars that saw time on the Guia course as well as a couple classic streetcars. We love the nice Ford Model T. Interestingly, we found that the (free) Wifi Go was carrying a much stronger signal and was much faster than during past visits. This was a nice little discovery made during our last trip to the Grand Prix Museum.
In our opinion, the Grand Prix Museum is a top five museum and makes an easy inclusion on your to do/see list of attractions for Macau, even for those on the shortest of trips to the city. You can make your was here quite easily from the main ferry terminal, just 8-10 minute away. Also, you can visit the Wine Museum which is just across the hall way from the Grand Prix Museum, this is another good way to spend 30 minutes or so and enjoy a bit of wine tasting while...
