The Red Market is an active wet market found in historic red-brick building located on the corner of Avenida Amirante Lacerda and Avenida Horta e Costa, just north of the Three Lamps District in Macau.
The building, designed by local architect Julio Alberto Basto in 1936 is symmetrically shaped and highly recognisable due to the distinctive colour of the red bricks which make up the building. Inside, there are three busy floors of seafood, poultry, beef, pork, vegetables and and other sundries.
Overall, if you enjoy visiting wet-markets, this can be an interesting place to visit. However, it is quite typical of of indoor wet-markets found in this part of Asia and doesn't offer anything particular unique other than the appearance of the building.
As such, this is just a minor attraction in Macau, probably best suited for those who regularly visit and looking for something new and different to see in the city. For others who have limited time in Macau, we'd suggest spending your time at more important and interesting attractions near the city centre.
Hint: The streets around the Red Market are quite active with market activity. These are enjoyable to stroll if you enjoy busy street markets where food products and normal consumables are being dealt. We actually prefer the scene to that of...
Read moreI recently visited the Red Market in Macau, and it left a strong impression on me. The market is incredibly clean, which immediately sets it apart from many other traditional markets. The atmosphere is friendly, with helpful vendors who are eager to assist and provide insights into their offerings.
As for the selection, it's excellent. The fresh fish stands out—most of it is still alive, ensuring top quality. The variety is impressive, with vibrant, glistening seafood on display. The pork and beef cuts are equally fresh, with rich, red coloring that speaks to the quality of the meat. Fresh fruits and vegetables also abound.
Whether you're shopping for daily essentials or looking for something special, this market has a great selection of fresh products.
Overall, I highly recommend the Red Market for anyone looking to experience an authentic, high-quality local market in Macau. The cleanliness, friendly service, and fresh produce make it a...
