We did 2 tours with Ballena Tour: the first day we did the Corcovado Tour and the next day we did the whale watching tour. We’re a family of 4, the kids are 12 and 9. On the day we went to Corcovado we got a lot of rain. Like a lot. So it was a little uncomfortable but we knew that was a possibility since we were visiting during the rainy season (in August). The guides were great (we went with Carlos) and he was really knowledgeable and a great guide. We still managed to spot a tapir, coati and boa despite the rain. We also saw scarlet macaws. And since the rain made the hike impossible to continue we went back on the boat and went in search of whales (and we saw lots of them!!) The next day we did a whale warning tour with Issa. She was so nice, knowledgeable and spoke so many languages! (During our tour she spoke English, French and Spanish!) Thank you Isa!! Not only did we see lots of whales, we got a lot of interesting information. I recommend the whale watching if you have younger children - I think Corcovado would probably be a little too long of a day for younger kids.

Our family had an amazing experience on this tour in Uvita. We brought our 7-year-old and 9-year-old, and they absolutely loved it. A big shoutout to our guide, Kico, who was not only knowledgeable but also incredibly entertaining and attentive to the group’s needs. A tip for future visitors: make sure to apply sunscreen, and have good water and hiking shoes ready. The organizers provided lunch and snacks both in the morning and afternoon, which included a meal at the pickup location and lunch on the island. We were thrilled to see a variety of animals, and despite there being many tours, everything was well-coordinated and kept moving smoothly. I recommend bringing a durable water bottle (not just a store-bought plastic one) and a snack for the break, which is around the halfway point of the tour. This experience is a definite must-do when you’re in Uvita.

AVOID THIS TOUR ! This was the worst whale watching experience I’ve ever had. The boat drivers were absolutely terrible — reckless, unprofessional. They drive especially fast for cheap thrills and we unnecessarily went straight into a wave to “freshen up everyone ”. Half a boat got soaked, my professional camera ruined, 5000 euros gone for a lousy little joke that could have been avoided. On top of that, the management was just as bad. When problems arose, they had no idea how to deal with this, shrugging it off as it was my fault I had a camera on a boat. For the price we paid, I expected at least some level of competence, but this company failed completely. Save your money and avoid this tour at all costs, there’s plenty of others offering the same services with better safer options. Also, not kid friendly, cause they’ll get tossed around like crazy.

This was the worst tour we ever did and we did many before in Costa Rica and in other countries as well. The service was a nightmare, the guides were very unknowledgable and the price is way too high for what they offer. We were picked up at our hotel, brought to the office of the company and walked a few minutes to the boat. After 1,5 hours we arrived in Corcovado national park where we were rushed the entire time. Shoes off, shoes on, no time to just appreciate the beautiful nature. During the hike, we saw almost no animals and those we saw were spotted by the group not the guides. We know that seeing animals is not a given but the guides didn’t even try to find them. Questions couldn’t be answered and the group itself was way too big. It was said they offer water during the hike but only if you bring your own bottle. After half of the walk the guide went for a swim while everyone had to wait for him. After the hike we had a small lunch before we went for a small second hike. This hike was more like a run, we had no time to stop and look at plants or the monkeys we spotted. After that we took the boat back. Back at the beach the guide told us he would walk with us back to the office but then took a car. And as we were picked up from the hotel, we thought they would get us back to the hotel which wasn’t happening. We asked when the shuttle back is coming, they said in a few minutes but after we got back to the hotel we had to pay the driver. We would recommend to choose any other company, they made a trip to a very beautiful place very...

I booked onto the Corcovado activity, which includes a boat transfer, hike of the national park and seeing wildlife, learning about the park, lunch, etc..

The tour was not as described, and suggests it would be suitable for those over the age of 1 or younger than 95 (picture attached). You could not take young children on this hike nor would it be safe for older people.

The hike was so off any tracks, the guide checking Google Maps for directions, we was shown a bird and a monkey for the entire 4 hours. But my main concern and reason for the negative review was the boat ride back to Uvita. I feel like the entire group were scared for their safety, and there was no trust in the guide and what was going on. Big waves, being soaked by the high waves and rain for the whole 2 hour trip back and no visibility. When you are in the Pacific ocean, this is extremely frightening, and especially when the guide is not communicating to you it doesn't give you much trust in them.

I can see from other reviews that the owner responds defensively and tries to shame people who have had negative experiences - "slow walkers", letting the team down etc. That kind of response and how others with negative reviews are responded to tells you all you need to know about how they operate. Rather than taking feedback onboard they lie and try to belittle the experience their client has had.

There are many beautiful things to do in Uvita, just do them with a...
