The first floor don't have English info, and the info is soo glossy that auto translate don't work well on it. Overall lighting could be more thorough out and better done. First floor is picture heavy and lacks actual props like coins and busts. No climate control on old metalwork like guns make them rust, it's sad to see cause some of them are crazy detailed. Let's hope they are still there 10y from now. Third floor info is written in a unreadable block of text. There is a big lack of seating for people who need it. Only way to get up is by hard stairs, one of our group was not able to make it to third floor cause of it. This place feels like they just opened it and need a few years to fix the kinks. Mostly everything can be improved on.
This is one of the only place in the region to learn about cultural history. I have high hopes for them to improve...
Read moreThe Ethnographic Museum of Dubrovnik Museums (Etnografski muzej) is located in the large building of the Dubrovnik Republic’s granary, known as Rupe/The Holes, which derives from the name for the underground grain storage areas carved out of bedrock. It was built in 1590, as a four-storey structure with fifteen storage pits in the ground floor and spaces for drying on the upper floors. In the earthquake disaster of 1667, the building was damaged, the subsequent reconstruction turned it into the three-storey building that it is today. The traditional rural economy and architecture of the Dubrovnik region is found on the First Floor, while collections of traditional attire from Dubrovačko primorje, the Elaphite islands, Konavle, Mljet, Lastovo, Pelješac, Korčula, Rijeka Dubrovačka and Župa Dubrovačka can be seen on the...
Read moreMultiple stories of exhibitions on the local culture and traditions with a temporary exhibition on women's role in the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. You can enter for free with the 10 Museums Pass or Dubrovnik Pass. Overall the layout doesn't facilitate the transfer of knowledge as there are plaques with a lot of text referring to some artefacts that are hidden somewhere else in the room. That makes it a bit tiring to get through each floor and be able to connect the information to the items. If you have one of the passes or are interested in seeing some traditional items it's a good place to spend some time. There is no AC and the higher you go up the warmer it gets. However there's a nice view of the old town from the window and seating options on...
