Told they couldn't take a reservation for the evening, so we walked in. Turned out tables for 2 (along the water), and 4 (1 row in) were all reserved, but the remainder of the expansive space was for walk-in. We were seated within 8 min around 7:15 pm on a Sunday. Couldn't see the water in the dark anyway.
Beautiful site right at Pile Gate on the water, with the City Wall lit up at night. Open air, well illuminated, well-spaced place. Music was a bit loud where we sat, bc the speakers were nearby. If you care, ask for a table away from the speakers.
I forgot to take photos of the rest of our meal. The vegetable soup was excellent. Since there was a lack of info on the menu, I am posting those pages instead.
Hubby said the salmon (ordered rare) was the best he's ever tasted (and we cook salmon at home frequently!) My veal had a lovely red sauce, with grilled vegetables (also done well) side served on a big, separate plate. Of the 3 - 4 pieces of veal, the middle piece tasted a bit overdone, so clearly asking for medium rare would have been the right thing. The seafood pizza had a nice dough, thin in the middle, with shrimp, squid & muscles on top. The toppings were fresh and tender. Good pizza.
The server took a long time to attend to our bill. Otherwise, everything was perfect, and the price was very fair, given the location (€100 for 3 including tip, a bottle of fizzy mineral water & 3 mains; no alcohol...
Read moreWe attended on a Sunday night, we chose to wait for a table outside in the courtyard overlooking the city wall, (10 minutes max). And we weren’t disappointed! The walls are lit up at night with the Adriatic Sea in full view, live music gently playing in the background made this a winner before we’ve even ordered. I ordered the swordfish carpaccio, and the seafood salad to start. Both were very good as starters, especially with their house white wine - which we were told prior to our visit was amazing, and did not disappoint! For a main we both ordered the seafood plate and requested our side dishes be plated separately to share. The fish was delicious and everything was cooked according to its meat. The salmon was pink, the Bass was flaky, the squid was tender and the prawns were shell on and sweet. For dessert we had the apple pie and the crème caramel, both very good. The service was also exceptional, very attentive and well spoken staff. One gentleman noticed that our table was slightly wobbly and quickly used a wedge to adjust it. I didn’t even notice the wobble! Overall and...
Read moreI start with fact that I was very dissapointed with Croatian cuisine - its nothing in comparsion with Greek or Italian cuisine, of course. This restaurant aspires to be very elegant and has professional and kind service (and very long queues in the evening after 19.30 so if you want to find a table be there at 19.00 not later), BUT... The food was good but not so exceptional or special in this restaurant. The portions are ridicolously small - every time I ordered more expensive main dish I received much smaller portion than my wife, who ordered appetizer risotto or pasta. Waiter said its whole grilled calmari with tentacles - no it wasnt. Like on photo below only heads without tentacles, portion ridicolously small. Bread and dessert saved me and I didnt walk away hungry. Very good cheese cake! Sea bass fillet - again portion ridicolously small. Risotto with sea food good and enough for main dish for lady. Generally the food is good but nothng exceptional and portions are very small. Good and polite service. Advantages: beautiful view and it`s calm place not so crowded...
