A great place to see, full of history and much more. Paphos Gate it was one of the three gates entering the Old Nicosia which was surrounded by the high Venetian city walls and it was called San Domenico Gate as the abbey of San Domenico was nearby. In 1878 the great section of the wall and gate was demolished in the middle to create the Paphos Gate policy Headquarters which it can be seen until today. There are two sections of the gate on one side there's a medial Royal hall called Castleliotissa and it was part of a Lusignan palace but it was destroyed when the wall it was built under the venetians. Up to 1938 the hall on one side it was underground. On the other side you can see clearly the Paphos Gate which you can walk through it and the Venetian City wall. Behind it after some excavations they have found an Ottoman aqueduct. Is worth a walk around the area.

Amazing piece of history that is preserved and kept as it was built a long time ago. There are two places, one is a road with the same name, which is not the gate, but right next to it is the official Paphos Gate. There is a metal bridge that leads to the gate, you can go inside and cross over on the other side. The doors seem to be like original but it is difficult to estimate their authenticity. On the back of the gate, there is a protective wall that was used during the ongoing island conflict. Overall, definitely recommend going here and seeing this simple yet quite captivating piece of history.

Stunning Ancient Greek remains, but Crazy thief operating in this area!! Be careful of your surroundings especially when you taking photos! the thief seems after tourist only, saying”it’s illegal to take photos here”and ask you to delete photos immediately in front of him, otherwise he gonna stab you with his screwdriver. And once you get your phone out, he would take it and run away (probably). Report to the police if you can, police number here is 199 or 112.
