Security never explained a single rule at the entrance. The playground was in sight, but instead of joy, we were stopped and sent to the “age-appropriate” area. There came the surprise: registration required—by reading a book—before play was allowed. After completing the book, the child played quietly on the floor, only to be corrected again: “Play only on the table.” Registration was questioned, despite our confirmation. The rule changed once more—now TWO books required, plus a “notification of completion” At the counter, even more nonsense: two books, reading exams!to prove kid read the books, and then asked for our citizenship status? Salvadoran or foreigner? In a public library?! What does our status matter at Public library?! Then we were told the child couldn’t play at the table because the floor was being swept. An associate hovered uncomfortably, watching every move. Toys were taken away, the child cried—frustrated by endless, contradictory demands. The worst moment: a rude comment to a family relative—“That’s not a way to raise a child.” Completely humiliating. The mother LIVID spoke up: rules should be clear from the entrance, and comments should be directed at parents, not others. The response? Arrogance: “I’m a social worker, and you don’t raise your child that way.” Out of line and unprofessional. We made it clear—her title doesn’t matter. The disorganization, shifting rules, and disrespect WAS UNACCEPTABLE.
IF SHE IS A SOCIAL WORKER I asked her this “If books sit beside a playground” which one will the kid choose?! of course children will choose to play. That’s common sense!! The child’s tantrum and confusion was valid…. Our disappointment even greater. Instead of welcoming, we were judged, shamed, and pushed out.
This library made us uncomfortable in less than five minutes. (And judging by other reviews, we’re not the only ones.)
⚠️ The news claims tourists are welcome—yet here, the opposite is true.
Unprofessional. Unethical. Absolutely unforgettable—for all the wrong reasons. Lost me and my family as...
Read moreTL;DR Free entry with various floors with various specialties. It's climate controlled with video games areas, a cafe shop & computer lab
Location: It's in the centre of the city where no cars are allowed so you will need to park a couple blocks away and walk towards the library. It's extremely difficult to miss and lights up very bright. The ground level is considered off limits to enter but you can walk up the stairs to the main floor where the small children area is. There is security at the doors, which helps with feeling safe. There is about 6 floors or so, with each having a different focus. There is a viewing area in the middle and upper floors where you can see more of the city from the top. They have a coffee shop on the ground floor which is open pretty late, as well as a book store on the same floor.
Services: They have rental of books but there are some that you are only allowed to read in the library, and then others that you can borrow from the library. They have a video game area for children but I believe they let any age play, as they have computer games, PS5, Nintendo and Xbox I believe. They have an area for individuals with mental difficulties and sensory difficulties. They have themed areas as well, which I believe they change every once and a while. We seen the harry potter theme when we went. They offer a kindle reading area where you can sit and read or listen. They offer a computer lab with high end Mac computers. They also have a large auditorium where I believe you must rent out to be able to use, which is in the basement.
Ultimately, It's an interesting place to explore if you are in the area. They have everything a state of the art library usually has. You can tell the Chinese influence in the library, as you can find Chinese writing in different areas. I believe it is open 24/7 so if you ever wanted to kill some time and learn something, this could be a great spot to...
