Authentic objects. Fair legends. Historically correct explanations. Nice space. Very good quality local memory. The collection has its intrigue that can be evolved into many ways. Basically, two main intrigues: - Japanese Geisha figurine that has a KGB aura of conspiracy around it; - 'Fayum' portrait identity. I would not dare to juge the authentity of this work, but the very legend around seems to be very productive.

Having bought tickets for both the Mikkel Museum and the Kadriorg Palace and Art Museum (across the road) at the Kadriorg Palace, the impossibly unhelpful gentleman on the desk refused us entry and made no effort to assist. Having been immersed in Estonian history and culture it was disappointing we couldn't...

Yksityisen taidekeräilijän Viron kansallisgallerialle lahjoittama taidekokoelma, joka käsittää länsieurooppalaista, venäläistä, japanilaista ja kiinalaista taidetta 1500-1900 -luvuilta. Myös vaihtuvia näyttelyitä. Johannes Mikkel (1907-2006) oli virolainen taidekeräilijä, joka keräsi itsenäisesti yli 600 taide-esineen kokoelman Neuvostoaikana. Kokoelma on jo pelkästään historiansa vuoksi poikkeuksellinen. Kokoelma sisältää monipuolisesti maalauksia, grafiikkaa, posliinia ja veistoksia. Museo toimii Kadriorgin palatsin vanhassa keittiörakennuksessa, joka avattiin museona vuonna 1997. Yhdistelmälipulla on mahdollista vierailla lisäksi Kadriorgin ja Kumun taidemuseoissa, jotka sijaitsevat samassa puistossa raitiovaunumatkan päässä Tallinnan keskustasta.

Johannes Mikkelillä on ollut sosialistisen realismin aikaan oma pieni maailmansa. Varsinainen ihme on Mikkelin kokoelma ahtaana aikana, mikä kyllä menettää tehoaan nykyisessä avarassa museossa. Paikka on kyllä Mikkelin toivomusten mukainen.
