There are many beautiful parks in Helsinki. Less known but near Helsinki city center is Observatory Hill Park (Tähtitorninvuori tai -mäki). It was early summer morning when we walked and sat there in the park, only few people with their dogs, beautiful day coming, just enjoy..

Only a narrow street separates Observatory Hill Park from old beautiful houses which surround the park. In the park, which is actually quite big, one can easily find a peaceful place there to have a picnic or sunbath. On the hill, there are the main buildings of the observatory of Helsinki University, incl. for example one part of a science museum of Helsinki and shop of Ursa Astronomical Association for star gazers and enthusiasts. If one, a tourist or not, has some leisure time in Helsinki, this park is worth of...

This is a vertical park and is home to Helsinki observatory which is part of Helsinki university museum. Observatory was part of university from 1834-2009. There are really nice view especially towards Katajanokka district and Silja Lines ferry when it is ashore in the Olympic terminal. There are few statues in the park. One of the oldest and biggest is a statue for shipwrecked. This statue was revealed in 1898 and it was seen as a protest against Russia, statues back is towards east and help is seeked from the west. Tensions between Grand Dutchy of Finland (part of Russia) and Russia were really high at the time. Russia was trying to russify Finland at the time. But there are great views towards the centre of the city and definitely...

This is a hillside leisure park a couple hundred metres south of the Old Market hall and the east end of Esplanadi. The area was historically a hillside lookout point where signal fires were lit to pass warning messages along the coastline. Today what you see is a park designed late 1860s by Swedish landscaper Knut Forsberg.

The hillside park has nice grassy lawn, walking paths, tall and mature trees offering shade. You'll find nice views of the sea as well as few monuments including the impressive 'Shipwrecked' monument by Robert Stigell (1897). Alas, the old Helsinki Observatory building is found in the centre of the park as well. On the whole, it is a nice bit of green and leisure space, potentially worth a visit while spending time...

Went here in winter. The park is a giant hill, so it was a bit treacherous in the winter, especially the walk back down. Seems like a loved community park. There was a family there tobogganing between the trees and they were getting some decent speed. And a couple of dog walkers. Decent views from the top of the hill facing the water, but it was foggy for me. I imagine it would be absolutely gorgeous in the summer with the view, but not a must see in winter.
