The food here has NOTHING to with real Russian food and everyone who has been to Russia and eaten delicious real Russian cuisine will know this if they order something in this restaurant.
First I ordered borscht soup. It was just a little cup and the soup just wasn’t good. Also without dill and the sour cream was solid and not creamy and soft which it is supposed to be. Served with one thin little slice of some very strange bread with something green on it. Real Russian borscht is served with garlic bread or black bread. And the soup costed 12€!! Wasn’t even worth 2€! Worst borscht I had in my life! Had nothing to do with real Russian delicious borscht!!
Then blinis. We got one! Very big thick kind of pancake!! Eh. Are you serious?? Real Russian blinis are very thin and taste delicious! Here they serve you a thick tasteless strange thing that has been cooked too long. Served with some strange cream and onions?! I have been to Russia many times and never eaten something like this there. This was awful!
Then the main dish. Some fish platter with salmon. It wasn’t so bad, but this dish had nothing to do with Russian food! Served with potatoes with some strange spices nobody serves you in Russia. Interior is interesting but looks old and worn. Service was good. Only reason I don’t give one star. The people who runs this restaurant can’t be Russian because they don’t know what they are doing. Also extremely expensive. Small portions, food is not tasty, not Russian and way...
Read moreTitle: Disappointing Dining Experience at Saslik Helsinki
My recent visit to Saslik in Helsinki left me thoroughly disappointed and underwhelmed. Situated close to the Russian embassy, I had heard that Saslik was once known for its Russian-friendly atmosphere. However, upon entering the restaurant, I couldn't shake the feeling that Russians were no longer welcome.
The ambiance felt cold and unwelcoming, with none of the warmth or hospitality one might expect from a restaurant in this location. It was clear that the restaurant had lost its charm and appeal.
But the most disappointing aspect of my experience was the food itself. The menu was limited, and many of the items I wanted to try were unavailable that day. What I did end up ordering was lackluster and uninspired. The flavors were bland, and the dishes lacked the authenticity and quality I had hoped for.
Overall, Saslik was a big letdown. I would not recommend dining here, as there are plenty of other options in Helsinki that offer better food and a more...
Read moreThis restaurant has nothing to do with authentic Russian cuisine. Borsch was very sour with 1 small smoked bacon piece (what relation has a smoked bacon to borsch?). Borsch was served with smetana which does not taste as smetana and a piece of bread which does not taste anything (not a real pampushka with garlic that should be served with borsch). Although in menu they called it borsch in Ukrainian style. Only dessert was ok, it was baked ice-cream with berries (not a traditional Russian dessert, but at least eatable) . It's very noisy in a restaurant, so you can hear what neighbours are talking about. Tables are very close to each other, so no feeling of privacy at all. There are no Russian speaking waiters (a year ago it used to be so), that is quite strange in a restaurant of authentic cuisine. Service wasn't good: very formal, with no soul. Summa summarum: just wasted money and no real...
