Ounasvaara Winter Trail — Attraction in Rovaniemi sub-region

Very peaceful and easy trail for one who wishes to take a nice walk in Rovaniemi. Trails are clearly labelled, so it is impossible to get lost in the woods. There is an observation tower and a BBQ pit along the route. If you are lucky on a clear day, you might be about to have a nice aerial lookout of the city!

There are multiple starting points for the Winter Trail. Personally, we started from Santa Sport, as there is parking readily available there, and the start of the trail is clearly demarcated there. If your main motive is to reach the Observation Tower as quick as possible, the Santa Sport parking is the closest...

Very nice easy walk with beautiful surroundings. The watchrower is not far from the start and you can see the city nicely. If you’re luckier than us you’ll probably see the sunrise and enjoy all the colors.

There it a restaurant on the way, however you have to look out for the opening hours because it’s not open all day, only in the morning and in the evening. You can go to the hotel on top, there’s a ski resort and Santasport resort to try.

If you’re lucky the wildlife is waiting there...

This is a beautiful, well-marked trail through the woods of Ounasvarra. The path leads you past the Observation Tower and summit of the downhill ski slopes. There are plenty of entry points including some where you can park your car. The start of the trail near the main road (78) doesn't have parking but you might be able to find some opposite the supermarket and walk down the cycle trails from there.
