Archéoscope — Attraction in Avranches

A combined ticket for 15 Euro/person gets you entry to a light and sound show, the Musée Historique, a Knights house, and the Maritime Museum.

The ‘light and sound’ show is hilariously bad in a cringeworthy way but does provide some interesting information on the historical development of the Mont Saint Michel and the changes that took place over time.

The Musée Historique is very interesting and includes exhibits on medieval weaponry, coinage, sculpture and more. In the garden you will find the Périscope which is so interesting and well worth doing. Afterwards you will travel below the Musée to the prisons which include Madam Tussaud-esque figures.

The Chevalier’s home is beautifully decorated with surviving medieval furnishings and is astonishing to walk through each floor. What it must have been like to live there! His wife, Tiphaine, appears to have been a very interesting woman and half the exhibit is about her.

Unfortunately the Maritime Museum is difficult to find and we ran out of time to search for it but it sounded great with info about the local environment.

I know others have said the ticket isn’t worth it but I would only agree with that if you don’t speak/read French at all. There are no English explanations throughout some of the exhibits and the light and sound show is...

Scam is a strong word, but it's definitely not worth the 9e. I wanted to learn more about the engineering of the abbey, and I learned absolutely nothing - all the info presented had already been shared in the audio guide of the abbey. Unlike other attractions in the area, this one is 100% in French with very few visual aids to communicate what is happening, so I wouldn't even consider going unless you are at a B2+ level. Show was so hilariously bad that the main appeal of this attraction was getting to describe it to people afterwards. It was 5' cooler than the outside on a 31' day so it may still have a place in a post-climate...

Bonjour nous venons donner notre avis suite à la visite du mont saint Michel. Très beau lieu. Mais c'est tout. Je suis désolé mais c'est du business. Et c'est ce qui enlève le charme a ce lieu. Tout d'abord parking payant 17 euros pour 4h de stationnement. On arrive sur le mont saint Michel en navette gratuite. Et c'est la seul chose de gratuite. Nous découvrons vraiment un lieu magnifique... Mais alors il faut payer pour allez voir des cachots et pas des moindres puisque c'est 12 euros le musée. Nous sommes une famille de 4 personnes. Je vous laisse faire le calcul. Sa c'est le premier budget. Ensuite une abbaye certainement magnifique rempli d'histoire... Mais 13 euros l'entré. Je vous laisse encore faire le calcul a 4. Deuxième budget. Et le reste ce sont des boutiques et des boutiques et encore des boutiques. Et puis des crêperie et des crêperie et des crêperie. Petite parenthèse je conseille la crêperie la sirène. Vraiment accueillant et bon. Sinon voilà. Et avant de partir nous apprenons que le mont saint Michel appartient a... A... L'état. Et oui on paye ces visites et ce parking a l'état. Bref un lieu et un patrimoine français gâcher par ce business. On ne ressent plus aucune âme dans ce lieu juste le pognon qu'on nous préleve. Alors oui je sais il faut entretenir il faut préserver, payer ceux qui le font très bien et sa a un coup, je l'entend mais c'est un budget juste pour aller voir une galerie marchande a ciel ouvert dans un lieu qui normalement es rempli d'histoire la c'est gâcher un patrimoine français. Si on veut voir une galerie marchande on va a Auchan et c'est gratuit. Pourquoi pas faire payer une entrée comme dans un parc mais où tout peut être visité, guider, expliquer. Dommage. Attention ceci n'est que notre avis. On a rien trouvez de whaou la bas. A comparer a une visite a saint...
