Is an omelette worth 23 euros? The chef and owner of this restaurant should really sit down and eat it themselves to know what it tastes like.
A few days ago, we saw that this restaurant had a 4.1-star rating on Google Maps, which was noticeably higher than most others in the area, so we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the dining experience turned out to be quite disappointing. Out of curiosity, we later checked TripAdvisor and found that it only had a 2.0 rating there, which seems quite controversial. So, it’s up to you to decide whether it’s worth a visit.
There are a few issues that need to be pointed out. First, even though there were many empty seats at the back of the restaurant, we were placed at a cramped two-person table right in front of the cashier. It was an awkward spot, noisy, with people constantly walking by, which really affected the dining atmosphere.
As for the food, the oysters were listed as “N°3” on the menu, but what we got were noticeably smaller and thinner, and not particularly tasty. We’re not new to eating oysters—these were clearly a different size and quality compared to what we’ve had in the markets, like at the Marché.
The most disappointing part was the omelette. On their menu, it’s described as the restaurant’s signature dish, supposedly famous in Mont-Saint-Michel. But what arrived was a plate full of fries, and the omelette looked like it was just made with two or three eggs casually pan-fried—something you or I could make at home. It had no culinary skill, no special seasoning. The only slightly different thing was the egg foam, but even that didn’t taste good when eaten. It was like eating eggy bubbles with strange layer of egg foam on top, almost like someone poured soap bubbles over it.". The plate also included three paper-thin slices of bacon—so thin a breeze could blow them away—and a small bunch of bitter salad leaves. This entire plate cost 23 euros, which clearly shows no effort was put in. It honestly felt like a tourist trap. I strongly urge anyone visiting not to order this dish. We originally thought it was a must-try after seeing the menu, like going to a treasure mountain and leaving empty-handed if you skipped it. But in reality, this was the worst food I’ve eaten during my travels in France. It wasn’t delicious, and the price was outrageous. I’m not even sure what exactly I was eating.
The service was mediocre as well. The waiter put us in that terrible spot, yet when an elderly couple came in and asked in French, they were shown to a nice table by the wall. This kind of treatment matches many of the negative reviews we later read—tourists don’t seem to be respected here and are often randomly assigned to poor seating.
I sincerely hope this restaurant improves both its service and food. We understand that many tourists only come to this place once in a lifetime, but that’s no excuse to treat them carelessly or...
Read moreRun away as fast as you can! We choose this place because reviews about the food were good and it looked nice from the outside. To be honest, the galette + dessert for 19,90€ was fair enough, but this is where the good part ends. The four of us entered the restaurant and stood by the door about 10 minutes. There were free tables, the waiters and who we learned was the boss looked at us in the eyes several times, but never greeted us. Nobody told us a word. After a while, we saw the boss waiter setting a table in the far end of the room, by the kitchen and toilets. Then she raised her hand at us, snapped her fingers, and pointed at the table for us to seat. As if we were dogs. We were abandoned for 10 minutes, then the lady came back. We tried to smile, thinking that it must have been a long day and we were the 10000th tourist that day, so it’s fair to be tired. So, with our best smile we said “bonsoir 😊” (good evening); again, we were not greeted. With a frown on her face, the lady replied “I’m listening”. She was unpleasant all along, barely looking at us. The worst part is that the same lady was pleasantly smiling at all other tables… except us! We were discriminated, for no reason. Moreover, remember that we were sitting by the toilet… but there were other free tables in the room, even by the window. The unpleasant waiter told us that the kitchen would close after our order, so this means that the tables would remain free. Trying to make the best of the situation, we asked if we could be moved to another table, further away from the clogged and bad smelling toilet (bear in mind: there were no tablecloth, so the move would be extremely easy); we were told by the unpleasant lady that there were no free tables, she told us while not even looking at us. This was a terrible experience, and for no other reason than spite. We stayed only because of the good food reviews, but I regret this. I would never again set foot in there, and I recommend nobody else does (unless you are among the lucky few that get a good treatment...
Read moreI didn't think of dining at this place because I had other options in mind. I walked out of the tourist information centre and I saw this restaurant and had a look at the menu and it had mussels! I was quite tempted as I haven't eaten mussels for some time. So after a quick decision, I entered the restaurant wanting to try the mussels. I was just 2 minutes early of 1130am so when I entered the restaurant, it was strange a couple of tables were already occupied and some people eating. They told me to sit anywhere I liked and asked me to wait cause the restaurant hasn't "opened" for business. So I waited 5 minutes later before the staff came to take my order. So I ordered the mussels menu, initially I thought it was expensive so I decided not to get anything else. I didn't see the menu clearly that it consists of cheese or a dessert as well. The staff asked me what cheese or dessert I wanted and I said I didn't want anything, then she told me it was included in the meal. I asked her to recommend a dessert and she recommended the baked Normandy apple. Didn't wait for long before the mussels were served. Looked quite disappointing at the first look, the size of the mussels looked pathetic it's almost like half the size of normal mussels. It looked like they gave a lot but most of the mussels were empty shells, and with such small mussels the amount of meat eaten was also very unsatisfactory. There was also no white wine taste in the mussels, the dish was bad. The redeeming grace was the baked apple, it looked ordinary but tasted very good. I was quite impressed by the dessert. I don't know whether to recommend this restaurant because am not sure if the other dishes would have tasted better. The mussels is definitely to avoid but the dessert is recommended. Wanted to ask for the bill and was told that "today" have to pay at the counter. Does it mean other days the staff will come to you? There are few other places to eat in Mont Saint Michel so don't make...
