If you’re visiting the iconic Mont-Saint-Michel and looking for a place to grab a reasonably priced bite without too many expectations, La Nouvelle Terrasse might be a decent option. Located along the main tourist street (Grande Rue), this restaurant offers a convenient stop for lunch or a quick meal while exploring the island. Location & Atmosphere The location is definitely one of the highlights. Set right in the heart of Mont-Saint-Michel, the restaurant provides a lively view of the bustling street, and if you’re lucky enough to get a table outside, you may catch a glimpse of the bay. The interior is quite basic and has a bit of a dated, touristy feel. It’s not a cozy or intimate place, but that’s expected in such a high-traffic area. Service Surprisingly, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Despite the crowds, our server took the time to explain the menu, smiled throughout, and even spoke multiple languages to accommodate international guests. The service was fast and efficient, which is a plus if you’re short on time. That said, some staff seemed a bit overwhelmed, especially during peak hours. Food Quality & Presentation Now, about the food — it’s nothing to write home about, but it does the job. We ordered an omelet and a dish of mussels with cream sauce. The omelet was soft but underseasoned, served with fries and a small salad. The mussels were well-cooked and fresh, though the sauce was on the thinner side. Presentation was fairly plain — don’t expect gourmet plating. If you’re craving high-end French cuisine, this isn’t the place. But for a touristy spot, it was fine. Value for Money One of the most pleasant surprises was the pricing. Compared to other restaurants on Mont-Saint-Michel (which are often overpriced), La Nouvelle Terrasse offers relatively cheap meals. For two main dishes and drinks, we paid under €40 — quite reasonable given the location. It’s not the cheapest in France, of course, but for a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it felt fair. Accessibility & Extras The restaurant is easy to find as you walk up or down the main street. Inside seating is a bit cramped, but there’s more space on the terrace. It’s not particularly wheelchair-friendly due to the layout and cobblestone street outside. Restrooms are available and were in acceptable condition. Conclusion La Nouvelle Terrasse won’t blow you away, but it offers a good value, quick meal in one of France’s most visited landmarks. The food is simple, the service is kind, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for such a prime location. If you’re just looking to rest your feet, enjoy a drink, or have a basic meal during your visit to Mont-Saint-Michel, this is a solid choice. For more refined dining, consider restaurants off the island or book ahead elsewhere.

Found the food to be average. We both ordered galettes which neither of us had had before. We looked on Google before ordering to see what a galette was, let’s just say what was put down to us didn’t resemble any the pictures of Google. The galettes were tasty enough, but they weren’t what we were expecting; they were more like savoury crepes. Service could have been better. We had to go and find our own cutlery as our waitress forgot to bring us some and couldn’t be found after bringing us our food. We also noticed another table complaining about an incorrect order which had to be sent back to the kitchen. Be warned, their bottled sparkling water is ridiculously expensive: €5.50 for 500ml! I think there are probably better restaurants on the island to have lunch at.

FUYEZ PAUVRE FOU !!!!

If I could give negative stars, I would! Not because the food was bad (it was average, what I would expect for a tourist area), not because it was over-priced (it was not a great value, but again what I would expect for a tourist area), but because they effectively chased away from the table!! And not just a little, but rather trying to come and take our plates when we were only 1/2 finished! Then, after we we finished quicker than we should have had too and making the plates available (in case they were running low on dishes, a question we asked ourselves to try to explain the rush) but while we still had 1/2 a bottle of cider to finish, a waiter came over and told us they have a reservation at the table in 5-mins! This was not expressed when we were seated, and we had not been at the table any longer than anyone else and certainly less time than some of the other groups around us. We would have liked to enjoy the rest of the bottle, perhaps a second bottle, and maybe a coffee (something we tried to express to the waitress,) Moments later the waitress comes back with the check (unasked for). No offer to move outside (if as expressed, inside is for food (we ordered!) and outside is for drinks (then let us enjoy our remaining in peace and maybe even spend more!) Feeling completely rushed at this point, we slammed the other half. Don't bother going here unless you are in a hurry and just need to inhale your food!! What could have been an acceptable, even enjoyable experience ruined by the need to churn and burn customers, so...

Mesdames, Messieurs,
