Visited 28th May 2023. Definitely a 4.3🌟
This is among one of the most complete ‘rempárt’ we have seen. It surrounds the town entirely.
The walk around the wall plus the tour of the interior took us close to 3 hours.
Proceed to the main hall where you can further understand the history of the town by watching a video presentation, before you start your tour.
Along the walls, there are numerous watch towers from which many different panoramic views of the town can be enjoyed. Make sure batteries in your mobile phones, cameras are juiced up. Better to bring an additional power bank or battery just in case.
Walking on the wall looking into town, you could see a large cathedral, shops, houses and restaurants. So, after your visit, make sure you go into the city and get yourself lost in its other attractions.
Going into the numerous halls within the castle, you will find various artefacts on display. They are an impressive collection.
The entrance fee to the castle is well worth it. There was a queue but the wait wasn’t long. However, tourist season was not in full swing yet. You can scan the QR code or queue to buy your tickets. I strongly suggest the QR code in July and August.
Your photo opportunities starts as soon as you exit the ticket sales office. 😁. Be prepared. A good pair of walking shoes highly recommended lest you want blisters. 😂. Bring lots of water. It gets very hot and humid. There are benches and areas inside the watch towers to take a short rest.
You will enjoy this castle...
Read moreIf you're just into breathtaking views, this is really worth it, even more so if you enjoy historic castles. It's Euro12.50 per adult including an audioguide bought separately at a desk after main ticket. If you have 4G buy the ticket using an online machine just outside the main entrance to the medieval city (where you select a 4date and time) as the queue for a ticket was really long. It's comfortably 2 hours well spent exploring the various rooms, towers and extensive ramparts high above the city. Did I say the views are magnificent? By the way...it's not a city for campervans! We found a quiet street and then 7 mins in using a bike or just use your camping aire as a base if you're staying...
Read moreWell, what can I say. This castle is truly impressive on another level. It's possibly one of the most impressive castles I've ever visited, and I've visited 100's, although mostly due to its vastness/size more than anything, but then isn't that what castles are mostly about?
You can actually see so much of this castle for free which is always great but the €13 ticket to see the rest is so worth it, especially if you've got the energy to walk the whole perimeter of the castle walls. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to see it all properly, maybe even up to 2 hours. If I was a Kid (perhaps I still am?) I would truly love this part.
Great for dogs in all the free access...
