We booked a table for 8pm as we spotted the lovely courtyard setting whilst walking around the old city. We were really looking forward to our meal and arrived promptly to be seated by a young waiter. We sat for at least 20 minutes without anyone coming to attend us. Our waiter seemed to have one task, get bums on seats as he was constantly sitting couples down at tables. We noticed a family who were behind us in the queue had already been served drinks and starters so I managed to catch the attention of another young waiter and told him we were still waiting! He said he would get a colleague and went off without any apology. Eventually we were able to order our drinks and decided to order the food too as we did not want to wait any longer! The drinks arrived, with a starter we were sharing and were plonked onto the table without a word from the waiter! We expected them to bring us a side plate each but no one came back. We had to ask for 2 small plates and waited for these to arrive. After 5 more minutes we decided to leave as the service was so poor and we had totally lost confidence in the restaurant/staff. I think they saw us leave but made no effort to follow us and ask us why! The restaurant is in a beautiful location but seemed to gave no Management on duty, just a bunch if young waiters who were not interested. We were disappointed as it ruined our last night in Carcassonne. We bumped into some friend later and told them if our experience. They had eaten in the restaurant a few days earlier and said the food was awful so perhaps we had a lucky escape! DO NOT EAT HERE would be my...
Read moreLes Terrasses de la Cité in the Carcassonne castle was like a culinary rollercoaster, and I'm not just talking about the medieval vibes! My wife's duck breast was so massive; it could have its own postcode, and it was cooked so well it practically sang "Quack Opera." But then there's my adventure—I ordered duck confit, but it seems I got a surprise cassoulet Maison delivery. I was so hungry; I devoured it without questions, but that sausage? It had all the enthusiasm of a library book.
Our dear waiter, the superhero of multitasking, had 10 other tables to rescue, which meant our service was on a leisurely stroll through history. Seriously, they should consider cloning him.
Now, the atmosphere was enchanting; it's not every day you dine in a castle. But here's the kicker: medieval knights may have left the building, but the cigarette smoke was determined to keep the atmosphere authentically hazy.
In the end, Les Terrasses de la Cité was a mixed bag of laughter and quirks. Maybe next time I'll order the cassoulet Maison and ask for a smoke screen as...
Read moreAvoid this like place the plague!! I don't know who they paid off to get the positive reviews but you couldn't pay me enough to come here again. I (Canadian) came with my partner (French). We waited 10+ mins to get in even though there was only 6 tables in use (should have been a sign to leave). We waited another 15+ min to order while we watched 4 servers set all the empty tables. The place looked peaceful which is why we stopped also they have stickers on the door stating they've won awards since 2007 (again idk who they paid for these). There was 2 of us, we odered wine and water and they gave us each 1 glass, so I guess decide if you want water or wine... The steak and duck was terrible, the salad was nothing but lettuce and a couple of tomatoes, the fries arrived room temperature which was still colder than the wine. The music was soothing but wasn't loud enough to drowned out the children screaming. Also, my partner got pooped on twice by a bird lol. The most disappointing restaurant I've...
