My visit to Camus was simply fantastic. It is one of my favorite memories and absolutely was a top highlight of my recent 2-week vacation in France. The tour was very informative and enjoyable. Our guide apologized for her English, but I thought she spoke very, very well. If only I could speak French so well! And the depth of her knowledge of cognac and her passion for cognac (most specifically Camus cognac, of course) was quite surprising to me, considering her age. She really helped make my visit so pleasant. She was also the interpreter for my Master Blender session.
If there is any way you can do it, you absolutely must take the Master Blender workshop. I got to sit at a private table with one of the Master Distillers of Camus and my tour guide/interpreter with four glasses of eaux de vie from four different appellations in the Cognac region. I was allowed plenty of time (perhaps I took too much?!) to smell, taste and discuss each of the four and get to know them as best as I could. Then I made my choice as to how much of each to blend into my very own bottle of Camus cognac.
I will absolutely return to do this again. I don’t know when, but I will absolutely return for another Master Blender session. Everyone I had contact with at Camus was so kind and accommodating. They made me feel so comfortable and at home. Like part of the family. They have such a wonderful history and their Cognac is absolutely fantastic. I’m fortunate that I can purchase Camus cognac just across the river from my hometown of Portland, Oregon and of course, I have been enjoying it very, very much!
I give this experience my highest recommendation and I cannot...
Read moreWhile one of the smaller houses ( relatively speaking) they make up for it in a major way, both in the quality and thoughtfulness of their displays and information - not to mention their very distinctive and lovely Cognacs ! The buiding and the displays may seem modest , but they are very well laid out with many great displays and material to teach you all about the different aspects of cognaac, the soil, the grapes, distillation, barreling and aging, in a very logical and easy to understand progession. Their cognacs are also very delightful , complex and unique because of their composition/blending of areas that a lot of the bigger houses do not use. The reulst are rich, complex cognacs for modest amounts of money , all of which are available in their gift shop after you have absobed all the knowledge and lore by going...
Read moreJust finished the “vertical” tasting experience guided by Sylvie and what an experience! Camus is not hugely promoted In the UK and we are really missing out. The entire range was very impressive - smooth with increasing complexity as you work your way through the range. Sylvie’s knowledge and clear love for the brand and it’s authentic approach to Cognac production really enhanced our enjoyment. The Borderies XO and the Ile de Re bring something special in their own unique way. Definitely worth making time...
