Very informative tour with a knowledgeable guide.

Only criticism is this: if you book the €18 standard tour (which is a good deal for the overall experience!), it says that you get to try the Baron Otard VSOP and the D'Usse VSOP. This is slightly misleading as the D'Usse comes in the form of a very weak cocktail where you can barely taste the cognac. It's like fruit juice. The Baron Otard VSOP is a normal tasting of the neat Cognac, so it would be good to compare the D'Usse in the same way. You can buy a taster for €5.50 extra, which is fine, but it would be good if they told you that beforehand.

Feedback to Chateau de Cognac: either increase the price to €20 and include the D'Usse as a proper taster on its own, or at least tell the buyer that it will be a cocktail...

We went on the English tour and if was really interesting and brought alive by our guide called Elizabeth (she was French and had spent a good amount of her life in England so could articulate the details brilliantly). She had a thorough detailed knowledge of the castle, cognac, history and the region which put into perspective exactly what we were looking at.

This is a tour for the whole family. The tasting at the end was good. We bought the entry level Sampling and that was perfect for us.

If you are English and interested in Cognac make sure you get this guide as she brought it alive for us (our family is 20, 18 year old daughters and 14, 11 year old...

Amazing chateau and good to hear about the interesting history. The tour we did in English could have been more informative, some of the most interesting little facts came out only after questions were asked. The degustation was limited, with tiny servings. We tried the VSOP, Princes (late VSOP) and XO. The VSOP was not very refined but the others were good. Would also have liked to be able to sample the Cognac d'Usse (Jay-Z's brand) which also comes from here, as this is only really available in the US market... This was not offered however.

Otard Cognac offer a tour of their cellars that allows you to visit the castle at the same time (their cellars are part of the castle), so while it is a cognac tour, you will be told some of the history of the castle as well. We were delighted that our guide spoke about the architecture as well (some vaulted ceilings are rumoured to be by Leonardo da Vinci), overall we would recommend the tour as it offers a unique chance to visit one of France's more interesting castles.
