The Fontaine du Lion is located on the left bank of l'Isère, the river that goes through Grenoble (French Alps). It is also erected at the bottom of stairs that leads to the Musée Dauphinois, very popular and free of charge, donations are welcome! If you're fit, or want to be fit, you can continue climbing the stairs, mostly steep, up the small abrupt mount where a fortress called "La Bastille" oversees the 3 valleys leading to Grenoble. A modern - in its time - cable car will take you effortless from Grenoble Jardin de Ville to the heart of the fortress. I'd say you're a fool if you go to Grenoble and miss the Bastille, not to mention the truly fantastic vues of the town of Grenoble and its 3 valleys, the Chaîne de Belledone generously coated with snow you'd love to dive in....
