The Musée d'histoire de Nantes is another wonderful attraction in the city. This museum offers visitors a chance to delve into the rich history of Nantes and discover its cultural heritage.

Located in the beautiful Château des ducs de Bretagne, the museum presents a wide range of exhibits that cover various periods of Nantes' history. From the city's origins as a Gallo-Roman settlement to its role as a major port during the slave trade and its transformation into an industrial hub, the museum provides a comprehensive overview of Nantes' past.

The museum's exhibits are thoughtfully curated, featuring artifacts, artworks, and multimedia displays that bring the history to life. Visitors can explore different themes such as maritime history, urban development, and social movements, gaining insight into the city's evolution over time.

One of the highlights of the museum is the immersive experience it offers. Through interactive displays, audiovisual presentations, and engaging narratives, visitors are encouraged to actively participate in the learning process. This makes the museum a great destination for both adults and children, as it provides an educational and entertaining experience.

In addition to the permanent exhibits, the Musée d'histoire de Nantes also hosts temporary exhibitions that focus on specific aspects of the city's history or showcase contemporary art. These exhibitions add a dynamic element to the museum, ensuring that there is always something new to discover with each visit.

The museum's location within the Château des ducs de Bretagne adds to its appeal. After exploring the exhibits, visitors can take a walk along the castle's ramparts or enjoy the beautiful views of the city from its towers. The combination of history and architecture creates a unique and memorable experience.

Whether you are a history enthusiast, a culture lover, or simply curious about the story of Nantes, the Musée d'histoire de Nantes is a must-visit destination. It offers a captivating journey through time and provides a deeper understanding of the city's past, present, and future.

A very unpleasant experience: we got in at 5:45 pm because they had told us we could visit up to 7:00 pm, but at quarter to 7 we were literally chased away by 2 staff, a woman with glasses and curly black hair that really showed such a lack of professionalism, and she can't even speak good English to make herself understood well! She even called a security man, to scare us and convince us to go, and they were sooo rude! They stole a quarter of an hour of our tickets and didn't let us finish our visit to the rooms. We told them we promised we'd be downstairs at 6:55 but they were adamant, they kept staring and shouting at us! I've never seen anything like that, and I've visited a lot of museums around the world. We complained at the ticket desks, the personnel there was really kind, but I doubt anything will be done to restore us or at least teach these people how to beheave with tourists, who pay their wages. I must add that in the museum the explanations are almost totally in French. In conclusion: it COULD be an interesting museum if it were more helpful to the tourists,...

My boyfriend and I only had 1 h to visit, but we would have loved to have more time! The staff was very nice. They gave us a free small guide (very elemental but excellent for a quick tour, was also present in italian) and audioguides that we bought for 2€/each (for the recommended 3h tour, along with a list of all the recordings devidedby room number, also available in italian). Plus, at the entrance, there are some cards (available in french, english and spanish) for a shorter 1h 30min tour. We used a mix of everything and had a pleasant experience, but the exposition was so well made that we recommend the 3h tour. Every room was nicely organised, with lots of interactive stations and videos. The audioguides were very detailed! The whole place is a really nice place and museum. You can check the history of Nantes and its region. We loved. The another part of our visit was the exhibition abot Gengis Khan. The exhibition in general was magnificient and extraordinary. The only this we were dissapointed was rudeness of the securrity guard. My French is rather poor but I always in France try my best to talk in French. Sorry guys, check your staff! 2 stars because of them, nevertheless the museum is a gem.

We had a great visit. First of all, not closed on Tuesdays, unlike some of Nantes’ other museums. The exposition is big, interesting and definitely worth the 8 euros. It covers themes from the 18th century, to the two world wars and the industrial revolution of Nantes. Beware, most information is in French though. So an audio guide (2€) might be a good option if you don’t speak French.
