Size is the most fascinating thing about this palace. Especially when you visit the lovely garden area (free of charge).
As for the inside itself, it felt like a tourist trap. Having been to the Munich Residence, this was much more toned down and simple in terms of display.
Also not happy with the ticket pricing. We were charged €17 each to view the old wing, the new wing, and the pavilion. Certainly this certainly has more worth considering each wing already costs €12 (if I remember correctly), and the pavillion, another few bucks extra (can't remember price but it was below €10). Honestly, the pavillion itself isn't worth viewing at all.
Considering that I was with my husband, I inquired about the family rate that I saw on their website. The family rate was €25 for 2 adults and up to 4 kids. Unfortunately, we were advised that we were not eligible for that because we didn't have kids. I found that unreasonable . What if we were a couple who couldn't have kids due to some reason out of our control? So a family of 6 can pay €25 entry but as a married couple who didn't have kids we had to pay a total of €34? Nonsense. They should have at least had a rate in between the solo and the family, or raised the family rate a bit higher as it totally...
Read moreI frequently visit this park whenever I feel bored, tired, or overwhelmed by the stressfull of my life. It serves as the perfect retreat for rejuvenation, offering opportunities to breathe in fresh air, listen to the melodic chirping of birds, and engage in relaxing activities. Dominating the landscape is a wonderful castle, with an expansive garden stretching behind it. The park features vast lakes where ducks gracefully swim, and at the rear of it, a children's playground ensures joyful playtime. Scattered throughout the park are benches strategically placed in shaded areas, providing respite from the sun's heat. Towering trees offer additional shade and protection. Moreover, vibrant flowers adorn and enhance the garden's natural beauty.
In addition to its serene ambiance, this park offers ample opportunities for physical activity and leisure. Visitors can enjoy running, cycling, playing ball games, and simply unwinding amidst the tranquil surroundings. Whether seeking an invigorating workout or a peaceful retreat, this park caters to a diverse range of interests and...
Read moreBeautiful formal gardens and wilder parklands that are free to enter, surrounding Schloss Charlottenburg and bounded on one side by the river. Easiest access from public transport is probably by the Jungfernheide station, from where you can cross the footbridge over the river to reach the park. Watch out for the pair of Goshawks that nest in the park. Their presence is normally signalled by a panic amongst the small birds and pigeons. There are also Common Buzzards but they don't frighten the wildlife so much. Red Squirrels are also present. We often see them around the section close to the schloss with ornamental hedges (a bit like a maze) where someone puts up fat balls to feed the birds. For hardcore wildlife enthusiasts a pair of scarce Middle-spotted Woodpeckers also live here. They're not easy to separate from Great-spotted Woodpeckers but they can be quite noisy so listen to a voice recording on a site like xeno-canto if you want to find them.
Several nice cafés close to the park. Am Belvedere, near the railway station does rather good...
