Overall taste of the food is 80%. I have been to many Chinese places in different countries. 80% is pretty average score.

Menu has a problem. There are no option to request even a hint of customization. Typically I can request the food to have different level of spiciness (less or more spicy), or have any other ingredient added or excluded. That is very easy to achieve, just tell the chef, unless your food is already pre made and you just microwave it. Since in most of my visited Chinese places you can easily request a customization, that is now the norm. But in this place it is not allowed, so this place falls below the norm.

The waiter is a little phlegmatic. Sometimes it takes a while if you want to attract your waiter's attention. You have to plan this maneuver, just like passing with a low powered vehicle.

Foor portions are huge. That is way above average. The portion size, in fact, is among the biggest I have tried. That is a good thing. Very good.

The pricing is on the expensive side, considering the prices I have tried elsewhere in this city. I would not call it an expensive restaurant by any stretch of imagination, but it goes above the average. Typically the more expensive it gets, the better the food quality becomes. And not the other way around.

Summary. Starting score: 5 stars. Taste and quality: average. One dish was below average, another dish was above average. Then the average is- just average. No increases of deductions from that. Menu has an issue: no special requests, even the slightest, are granted. Some places that do not grant requests, accept them and tell that they will do it, but in the end they "forget" it. This place is too honest about that. That's why -1 star for not granting, and -1 star for having the nerve to say that "in your face". Total -2 stars. Slow waiter. -1 star. Foor portions are big. +1 star for meeting the "slightly bigger than average" size criteria. +1 star again for meeting the "much bigger than average" size criteria. Total +2 stars. Pricing: above average costs. -1 star for that. Total: 5 -2 -1 +2 -1 = 3 stars. This place is currently...

We just moved to Cologne and a friend recommended this place & we tried it last Saturday, it was the WORST Chinese restaurant I have ever been to in my life! Honestly I am not exaggerating. I am Chinese and I know what good and BAD Chinese food taste like.

We ordered sweet & sour soup, it was like water with added chilli colour powder & hardly any ingredients in it & it was almost euro4! The sweet corn chicken soup the waitress recommended for my children was no better, the same watery liquid with a tiny bit of sweet corn in it & also cost euro 4!

My mom ordered Dan Dan noodles & we have never tasted and seen dan dan noodles like that (not in a positive way). Not only did they use bad quality soggy egg noodles, the dish was extremely hot & spicy (despite our request for less chilli) and worst of all was that there was no peanut and seasame taste at all! The waitress offered to cook one with less chilli and she came back after 5 minutes with another bowl of noodles and it was obvious the cook has just rinsed our noodles in water and returned the dish. It was so unpalatable, we just couldn't eat it despite being hungry.

Our fried noodles with vegetables was nothing to shout home about, slightly below standard but not as bad as the dan dan noodles.

We also ordered a spring roll starter, there was hardly any stuffing in them!

The only dish that we ordered was quite nice was a cold dish - a plate of sliced beef.

To top up our massive disappointment, the bill came to euro 42 and we were only 2 adults & 2 children. We were even charged euro 1.50 for a glass of warm water for my mom!

I have never written a review for any restaurant before but I felt Great Wall is such a rip-off that anyone wanting decent Chinese food should...

This is the restaurant that asks guest to leave! I agreed with comments below. Bad experience with the staff. Actually, to be precise, one staff ruined our experience. We came in around 17.50 and asked for table for 4. This staff came around and prepare table for us. We sit down and go thru the menu. Till we are ready, we called the staff quite several times but they just run around looking busy. This is understandable. Ten minutes passed. The same staff came back and ask us to move to another table (kinda forcing not begging) and give the reason that there will be a booking of 5 pax coming in 15 mins and she can’t manage tables into perfect fit.

Instead of trying to fix issue in a professional manner, she came up to us, shouted at us and said can you pls move to another table over there? And we asked why because we are so tired and have been sitting down for awhile, it made no sense to shift table anymore. She said everything is the same and her face turned annoyed and irritated as if we cause the inconvenience to her, in fact, it’s her who failed to manage the table and the bookings.

At the end, we are not happy and moved to another restaurant nearby. And she didn’t even say sorry. Worse, she made us feel like “if you not happy, just leave”

Look out for the staff’s manner, service and attitude.

Edit again in 2023 the restaurant seems to report my review which is genuinely true and it was a...

I've eaten in a lot of chinese restaurants around the world including the neighborhood where i live which has many authentic chinese kitchens and this was by far my worst experience. The food is not tasty at all, maybe we made the wrong choice of the dishes. We had spring rolls with vegetables which were only made of dough with no vegetables inside, the beef with corriander and chili was neither tasty nor well seasoned, the beef noodle soup tasted like supermarket bought noodles with the five spices overwhelming the soup, the beef in the soup was a bit tough on chewing. The service was good and the staff were friendly though.

If you are looking for authentic sichuan food in Cologne this is the ideal place. Located within short walking distance from the Dom. The food was very delicious and the staff very courteous. They will make the food more spicy if you want but I don't recommend it. We want here two time during our 3 day trip. Everytime we went there we were the only non-chinese people there. Try the chicken Kung Pao, chicken with oyster mushrooms and chicken with sweet bean sauce. The fried rice and Hunan style noodle with peanut sauce was also delicious.

Honestly, I really don't understand the amount of negative reviews this restaurant gets, I grew up on Sichuanese cuisine because of my parents' cultural background and this is as good as you can get in a foreign country. The pricing is very reasonable...I've been extorted for more before in much much poorer quality restaurants. This experience here was the highlight and honestly saved my entire trip in Cologne, I am definitely revisiting this place tonight because the service was very warm and welcoming on top of the delicious food.
