It's a very large and well maintained park/botanical garden. The plant variety is quite overwhelming, and includes plants from various regions of the world, as well as local ones, highlighting the biodiversity of Nordrhein-Westfalen. The park has also some wonderfully maintained topiary areas, with plant arches, fountains and palm alleys. There's aswell a greenhouse area, housing a wonderful collection of palms, trees and bushes. The best time to visit is early summer or spring, when the flowers bloom and you can walk through the camelia garden or the rose aisle. Most of the plants have placqes with the common and Latin names, as well as the provenience, and there are also informative placqes throughout the park in English. I quite enjoyed walking there, admiring the nature and chilling on various benches placed throughout the whole area. The gardens are free to entry and are a brief walk away from the train terminal. You need to walk between the Zoo and Aquarium, this makes it a interesting excursion as you could also factor these in on your visit.
The gardens themselves were well maintained and beautiful. There are plenty of benches around for you to sit on to take in the beauty of the area. On our visit the cafe/bar wasn't open so would advise to bring some drinks/snacks with you depending on how long you intend to explore.
There are a couple of toilets around the site which cost 50 cents, these are clean and...
Read moreA truly peaceful and enjoyable place, definitely worth a visit in Cologne. Entrance is free, and you’ll find plants, flowers, and trees from all around the world. The gardens are beautifully maintained, with plenty of benches where you can sit, read a book, study, or simply relax and enjoy nature.
The Café Restaurant inside the garden is also worth a stop, offering tasty dishes and interesting presentations that make the visit even more delightful.
The only downside was that many of the indoor greenhouses were closed for renovation. Hopefully, they will reopen soon, which will make the experience even better. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a calm and refreshing break surrounded...
