An dieser Stelle stand einst ein Brunnen, den der Unternehmer Sigmund Aschrott im Jahr 1908 seiner Wahlheimat Kassel schenkte. 1939 riss man dieses Bauwerk aus keinem anderen Grund nieder, als dass sein Stifter jüdischen Glaubens gewesen war. Ein Nachbau befindet sich heute in Yad Vashem. In Kassel findet man heute an gleicher Stelle einen im Rahmen einer der ersten documenta-Ausstellungen errichteten "negativen" Brunnen vor, in dem das Wasser in der Mitte zusammenfließt und unsichtbar in die Tiefe stürzt, anstatt sichtbar nach oben geschossen zu werden.
