A beautiful limestone church in the Gothic Revival style. It was severely damaged during World War II, but was renovated later. The church was damaged once more in 1960 in a tragical accident. An airplane strike the steeple of the church and crushed, taking the lives of 20 passengers of the plane, a pedestrian and 32 passengers of the tram that it crushed into when falling... It's hard to process all that information while looking at the stunning exteriors and the cute gargoyles. Paulskirche has very nice ornaments, each of the facades has something to offer, will that be rose window or a beautifully decorated portal. The area is peaceful and is ideal for a break from the busy city. Read moreI noticed the church from a distance due to the tall spire. We were waiting at a cafe for our hotel room to get ready but I decided to walk there since it looked close by. I could see the layers of scaffolding the closer I got. The church itself was quite large and looked nice, particularly with the designs around the doors. The front area was really nice with the twin spires and the circular window. The entrance area also looked nice but it was closed off. To imagine that almost a large part of the church was badly damaged during the WW2 bombing by the Allied forces and the way it has been beautifully restored to its original grandeur is amazing.
And as always like in any religious building like temples, mosques or churches, the moment you enter the church, a calming effect seems to envelope you and one transcends into a spiritual space.
