I was there for the first time on a Sunday. The place is REALLY small, like, one room. The owner/founder was running a “private tour” - I didn’t know that was a tour let alone private; explaining some things to a couple. I followed them because really it is difficult not to, since it is a very small place and he was speaking loud. He then told me I couldnt since it was a private tour and I didn’t pay for that, although I had just paid for my entry (fairly expensive for one room of things that ain’t a real “museum”, but rather a collection). Anyway I just thought that was really blunt and disrespectful to customers. The figures are interesting and the Dackels are very sweet. The small front part is a store, like other museums, they sell Chinese-purchased “souvenirs” and themed things like mugs, socks etc. All things say “made in Germany” but it’s like in any European country really, if you point your camera to it on any chinese Marketplace like Ali you find the exact same item for 1/10th the price, and purchase to proof it is indeed the same. That’s not their thing specifically, the whole shops/museums market in central europe has now become that. Anyway.
Overall it would’ve been a much nicer experience if they treated customers better or weren’t just telling people to leave (leave to where? lol it’s literally a room) so I think it kinda...
Read moreMy husband an I loved Passau and the dachshund museum was icing on the cake. The owners were very friendly, like the rest of the population of this lovely town. My only regret was we got there just after their pups had gone home--would have loved to meet them as well. As parents of three dachshunds, we knew we had to go there just to let our friends back home in Florida know what freaks we are about the breed. Also, we got some great toys for our...
Read moreMore of a gift shop and less of a museum. We stopped in to get some dachshund themed gifts for a friend and there are plenty. I wandered into the museum part by accident and saw nothing but dachshund kitsch. The manager wanted 5 Euro to see the whole museum and it wasn't worth it. If you want wiener dog knick knacks, this is your place. If you want to see history, go some...
