The Regensburg Cathedral Treasure Museum is located in the historic rooms of the Bishop's Court, in the immediate vicinity of St. Peter's Cathedral. Over many centuries, valuable art objects were donated to the cathedral chapter by wealthy benefactors. But over the centuries, the Regensburg cathedral treasure was repeatedly destroyed, looted, melted down to renew liturgical objects or even sold in the event of financial bottlenecks. However, the entire cathedral treasure was never completely destroyed, so that an impressive contemporary testimony from almost 1000 years of church history has been preserved to this day. These include such extraordinary pieces as a chasuble from the Salian period, the so-called Wolfgang's chasuble, or the oldest documented object in the cathedral treasury, the so-called Wolfgang's bowl from the early 12th century. Opening hours are 11am to 5pm (Mon-Sat) and 12pm to 5pm (Sundays). I believe entry was €1.50 per person and came with a written guide and description of treasure highlights (German and English)
There are two downstairs rooms, one with attractive Renaissance frescos, the other with treasures which date from the Middle Ages up to more recent times. You'll see precious items including crucifixes, goblets, monstrances, impressive goldsmith works and jewellery. Another upstairs room includes more treasures, artworks and items to see. The highlights of the collection are in an very good condition and make for very nice viewing.
All in all, the museum is a small attraction that can be visited comfortably in 15-20 minutes. Its worth the time and small spend if you have the time...
