I am writing this as my experience occured less than an hour ago. I arrive and wait at the desk of the restaurant for over 5 minutes with no sign of any staff. I make my way in to the dining hall and ask if they're still open, whereby a friendly young lady says yes. I proceed to ask in German that I am only here to drink and if I can pay by card, she tells me it is no issue. She tells me I am free to sit wherever. Sadly enough the lady that welcomed me was not the lady serving me.

I was sitting for more than 5 minutes without being given a menu. I proceed to take a menu myself. Literally 10 seconds after having opened the menu I got a very mean mean lady with short grey hair and wearing glasses who appeared at my table. She was a real German Karen, let's call her Helga.

Helga asks me what I want to drink. I tell her in German that I need to make my choice. She does not understand me. Then I tell her that I need time. She doesn't understand me. I repeat again "I brauche Zeit" whereby she replies "Aaaaah Zeit, ich kann auch auf Englisch reden". Whereby I let her know it is not necessary as I am in Germany and I learned German in Bavaria. She just interrupts me with "Ja, Ja OK" and walks off as if I am bothering her.

Helga comes back and I ask her if they have the Zoigl as their brewery produces it. She interrupts me again and says "Nein, Zwickel". Which results in me having to do my explication again which is met with an eye roll and her telling me that they only have a Zwickel. Okay fair enough. I order a Weissbier which is mediocre.

My beer is finished and I am pretty much waiting ten minutes for Helga to come back. She appears and asks if I want to drink more. I ask for the bill and she walks away before I even finished with my sentence. She hands over the bill and I tell her I am paying by card. She asks if I don't have cash money. I friendly let her know that I would like to pay by card which is promptly met with another eye roll and a sigh.

The payment is completed and I get a "Schönes Tag" to which I reply with a smile: "Du auch und vielen Dank für deinen Service". Helga just walks away while uttering "Sie, sie, SIE AUCH" as he turned her back at me.

I am still in utter shock. I am sorry Helga, no one is forcing you to work on Sunday. If you ever come to this place avoid having old and cranky Helga as your waitress. She is MEAN and she treats tourists like the...

We loved our stay in this beautiful, historic hotel. It was once a medieval bishop's palace, and, before that, formed part of the Roman fortress! The staff were fantastic, from the reception to housekeeping to waiting staff. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, and, as in the rest of the hotel, beautifully decorated. Everywhere in the hotel was spotless and we loved the decor. The hotel was perfectly situated right in the centre of the old town, we could walk to everything. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful - especially the speck (bacon) and the extensive cold meat and cheese selection. We wished we had a longer stay so we could sample more of it. We ate in the restaurant as well and the food was very good. All in all a perfect stay, with just a few things to mention below, but they in no way spoilt our holiday, we had a fantastic time in this beautiful city and we are so glad we chose this hotel.

Negatives: no kettle in the room, hot drinks available from the restaurant but this got pricey street noisy on a Saturday night until 2.30am, no air con in standard doubles so windows needed to be open. Fine on Sunday night - quiet shower over bath hazardous for those with mobility issues, had I realised this I would have booked a...

Went to Biergarten. Very nice. Great food and service

We only went there for local ‘traditional food’ and beer. The seater guy wasn’t kind at all, no hi or nothing only asked what we were looking for. We said ‘we are hungry’. He took us to a table, then a muslim guy dressed as a German barman (with no judgmental attitude) picked up our orders. Food was okay, far from a top rated quality. You could feel that they don’t like their English speaking guests. 2 different English/ American group left the restaurant just the time we were there. They didn’t served them. They called the manager (probably polish woman) but she let them go without sorry. We had to wait 45 minutes for the bill. The German dressed guy wasn’t kind very angry he had to come back to us, even though I put €5 in his palm. He didn’t say thank you or buy… In the heart of the old town, beautiful place… but the attitude is not welcoming at all. We had the meal what was okay so we tried, tick and go - next time somewhere else. I’m bored these places where the waiters are above the guests kinda like boss- employee relations. No thank you. And as I mentioned 2 round of English group left them behind, if I was you who want to visit there would say NO. The building is stunning but that has nothing to go with the people who are working there.
