I had one of the worst experiences ever trying to visit this art gallery. At the ticket desk, it says no bags allowed. But no bag dimensions. To me, a bag typically means a backpack.
I had a mini purse that had my credit cards, glasses, medicine, and some cash in it. When I went to check my coat at the coat check, the man standing there was trying to insist that I leave this mini wallet size purse with him. I refused and he said there’s a no bag policy. This doesn’t constitute a bag. If you’re going to instate a bag policy, you have to post the dimensions. I did not feel comfortable leaving my belongings at a coat check, not to mention, it’s also obvious I had nothing in this mini purse that would do anything to any artwork.
If that’s what they were concerned about, then they should search people’s bags like other museums or galleries all around the world do. So I decided to leave then and not view the artwork because I was being treated so terribly. I couldn’t get my money back at the gallery so I had to contact my credit card company to revoke the charge from my account.
So make sure if you’re going to visit you don’t bring even a purse or prepare...
Read moreNice permanent collection, had a little something for everyone. Most of the permanent collection is from 1800s and before. Although, they're is a modern won't if the permanent collection too.
You should also see what exhibitions are being currently displayed before you go. We ended up spending most of our time in the Duchamp collection. It's the most extensive collection of Duchamp I've seen. But please note, that pictures are not allowed in that wing.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They informed us when the Duchamp cardiogram was running (it only runs for 15 minutes every hour).
There are wheelchairs available to borrow, as well as walkers and crutches.
There are self-service lockers which require a 1€ deposit. Or you can have your coats and bags checked for 1€ (I don't think this was refundable, but we used a locker). Note: you must...
Read moreThe States Gallery is an important art museum complex along Konrad-Adenauer-Straße. During my visit, I enjoyed spending time in the original classical style (Alte) Old State Gallery, which opened in 1843 and was restored in the 1950s after severe damage from WWII bombings. This is where the historic fine art collection. You can view works of German, Dutch, Italian works dating back nearly 700 years. It is a good collection of pieces by Europen Old Masters.
I also enjoyed the (Neue) New State Gallery is a Postmodern style building completed in 1984. This is where you view an impressive collection of 20th-century Modern and contemporary art collection, a nice counterpoint to the traditional fine art in the Old Galleries.
We spent nearly two hours browsing the collections in both galleries, finding it a nice way to spend time art viewing while...
