This museum is in a strange residential area away from the center, but it's worth the trip there... a really great collection of contemporary Cretan artists... better than most major city contemporary art museums i've been...

Το μουσείο εικαστικών τεχνών στο Ηράκλειο αποτελεί ένα διαμάντι που δυστυχώς λίγος κόσμος το γνωρίζει. Οι εικαστικές τέχνες έχουν ένα ευρύ περιεχόμενο και πολυδιάστατο χαρακτήρα και συμπεριλαμβάνουν κάθε μορφή εικαστικής δημιουργίας (έργα τέχνης, εικόνες και αντικείμενα) που σχετίζονται με τον πολιτισμό και το περιβάλλον. Ευκαιρία για μένα ήταν το ζωγραφικό έργο του Μανώλη Μαριδάκι. Ένας ζωγράφος με πλούσιο ιστορικό, επηρεασμένος από τους σουρεαλιστές, δημιουργώντας όμως ένα δικό του τρόπο έκφρασης. Απεικονίζει στα έργα του την αποξένωση, τη μοναχικότητα και τη σύγκρουση του γκρίζου με το φως....
