Like any other Greek ferry ports, there isn't much structures around with open area. a ticket booth for last minutes purchase which i would NOT recommend on getting your ticket as I always see the booths having long line up. it may be a deal and if you are budgeting badly to save up on expenses but it seems relatively stressful to try to get a ticket there if you are a tourist and not Greek. Just get your ticket online and get on the ferry in a timely manner so that you can relax on the ferry without the stress.
Pay attention to the ferry signage to ensure you're getting on the correct ferry for your destination. It can be rather chaotic if it is your first time getting on.
Basically, find your ferry. have ur ticket/ QR code ready for scanning place your baggage to the correct destination rack (it is also okay if you placed it in the wrong one) just make sure you will be able to find it as you get off go up to the seating area and find your seat, ticket/QR code will be checked ask a staff to help on locating the seat if you are unable to see the letter of your seating get your food and drink ASAP before the others settled down (better if you have food and drink already) use the washroom (it can be difficult if the waves is too...
Read moreInteresting old town on the slope but the top Castle was a disappointment. Lots of money seems to be is being spent but work seems to be extremely slow. They seem to be more concerned about building a cafe or some sort of modern building in the centre of the castle grounds which looks like a bit of an eyesore. There is a castle slightly lower down the hill which was far more interesting and much more intact. Views from Castle are great, but they are from high vantage Point in many other places. I would say this is possibly one to miss. The walk is very strenuous to get to the top Castle, so a taxi ride might be a good idea, but most very healthy people should manage it...
Read moreOnline (and on the board outside the port) they said there was luggage storage. When we arrived with all our luggage we were told by people in the port that there wasn't meaning we had to walk back into Heraklion to find some. If you are looking for luggage storage the bus station has good and affordable options which are open until 8pm. The staff at the port services were rude and unhelpful when we asked after the luggage storage, and when collecting our tickets. Actual ferry ride was fine and staff on board...
