A Magical Experience with Harriet’s Hydra Horses
My recent trip to Hydra was truly special, thanks to Harriet’s Hydra Horses. We had the pleasure of going on two unforgettable rides with Harriet during our trip.
Our first adventure was the Sea Horses trek, where we got to swim with the horses. I can honestly say it was one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had. There’s something truly special about wading through the ocean on horseback, without a saddle, feeling so connected to both the horse and the sea. It was a moment of pure joy! I would recommend this to anyone visiting Hydra.
The second ride took us up to the St. Nicholas Monastery. The journey through the scenic hills was beautiful, and the views from the top were simply breathtaking. Harriet’s horses are so sure-footed that I felt more secure on the steep path on horseback than I would have been on foot! Standing at the monastery, looking out over the island, I felt completely at peace.
Harriet herself is wonderful. Her love for her horses shines through in everything she does. The horses are healthy, well-cared-for, and have such unique personalities! She also ensures that the rides are safe, providing helmets for every rider. I am not as experienced on horseback as my wife is, but Harriet made sure we both felt comfortable and confident throughout both rides. Her deep knowledge of the island and her passion for what she does made the whole experience even more memorable.
If you’re in Hydra, don’t miss out on this. Riding with Harriet’s Hydra Horses is not just an activity—it’s an experience that allows you to see the island in a whole new way. I’m so grateful for the memories I made during...
Read moreWe had the best morning with Harriet, Sera, Dennis, Aires, Chloe, and Aphrodite! We booked the seatrek ride with Harriet, she was very communicative and clear about instructions and what to bring. She welcomed us in the morning and got us set up with basics and safety equipment. After reviewing the rules we mounted up and head in to town. Seeing the streets from horseback and navigating through the country side was so unbelievably beautiful. All four of us were in awe the entire time. It was very windy out which kicked up the current which posed some challenges for a "regular" swim for the horses. But Harriet prioritizes everyones safety over everything which we appreciated, so after a quick dip in the water and some time for the horses we made our way back to town. Harriet took the time to get a cup of coffee with us and give us some recommendations for our time in Hydra. (If she gives you recommendations, listen to them!!!) . We shared many laughs and shared fears of spiders, and started plotting our next adventure to come see Harriet together. We truly felt like saying goodbye to this woman who was a stranger 4 hours beforehand, was like saying goodbye to a friend by the end of our time together. We can not say enough good things about Harriet and the tours she offers. We cannot wait to come back and...
Read moreY'all! Don't sleep on this fabulous Hydra experience! I am an experienced rider, riding since I was 8, while my partner had never ridden on horseback in his life. And the result?
We were both blown away. I'm serious! If you're a total beginner you will have a fabulous time because the horses are extremely well trained and Harriet is knowledgeable, friendly, communicative, and patient.
If you're an experienced rider you can appreciate the level of care she puts into training her horses because they were very comfortable on what I would consider challenging terrain (with complete strangers on their backs, no less!). My mare Chloe was obviously very well bonded with Harriet and was extremely responsive and easy to handle, even when going up and down crumbling stone steps! And for dog lovers, her young rescue hounds were an absolute hoot!
If you want a one of a kind travel experience, breathtaking views of this gorgeous car free town that you can't find anywhere else, and the joy of working with animals all rolled up in a tidy bundle, Harriet's Hydra Horses can't be beat.
I pity the poor souls who go to Hydra and miss out on this sweet little adventure. As for us, we can't wait...
