The Church of the Savioris located on Egnatia Street near the Byzantine Kalamaria Gate on the eastern side of the old city. It is one of the 15 Paleochristian and Byzantine Monuments of Thessaloniki that were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988. The church has been dated to about 1350. The ground plan of the church consists of a square with a tetraconchin scribed with in it. The exterior of the sanctuary apseissemihexagonal in form. The wall-paintingsuncovered in the dome, beneath a thicklayer of soot, arearranged in threezones. At the pinnacle of the domeisdepicted the figure of Christ. Read moreDin pacate nu am putut vizita si interiorul acestei mici bisericute (era închisă) dar exteriorul acesteia, precum si modul in care este construita, iti incanta privirea. Faptul ca este asezata puțin sub nivelul solului, iti ofera posibilitatea de a vedea aproape toata cupola si de a admira arhitectura bisericii in toata splendoarea acesteia. Daca treci pe langa aceasta bisericuta, merita sa te opresti si sa o admiri macar pret de doua minute si o poza. Unfortunately I couldn't visit the inside of this small church (it was closed), but the outside of it, as well as the way it is built, enchants your eyes. The fact that it is located just below the ground level, gives you the opportunity to see almost the entire dome and admire the architecture of the church in all its splendor.
