Asteras Beach — Attraction in Municipality of Vari - Voula - Vouliagmeni

So my husband and I decided to spend our last day in Athens at Asteras Beach, despite some of the negative reviews. Unfortunately I have to add to it. Let me state the pros first - during the weekday it is 5€ to enter, and with that fee you do have access to chairs and umbrellas which are fine. We came on Thursday afternoon so it wasn’t too crowded. The water was fine, you have to swim out a bit because it’s shallow but it was nice. The restaurant however makes no sense. They gave us this fine dining menu which we didn't really care for as we were on the beach. There was a sushi option, however we were told that it was only available after 7pm. Anyway we ordered a calamari appetizer for 10.50€ which obviously didn’t curb our appetite. Im not saying don’t come. But if you are maybe buy something to eat on your way here. The drinks were okay not great but not bad either. ...

Perfect for that lazy day you need on the beach! We arrived late afternoon by taxi - we didn't fancy the tram journey. Taxi took about 20 minutes from Kolonaki, and was €15 each way - we used the Beat service which was excellent.

Beach was lovely and clean, and even arriving at 1pm we snagged sun loungers and an umbrella. Water was great for swimming! We stayed until about 5pm, made use of the bar services for drinks while lounging and then headed for dinner at the restaurant. Good food, prices were as expected.

We returned to the beach after dinner to watch the sun set, before heading home :) Perfect for that one day in your holiday when you're craving...

The good

beach is nice, with sand and barely any rocks once in the water. It is a safe place for families and the music from the bar/restaurant is relaxing and not intrusive. Also the relative easy of reaching the beach fron Athens makes it a great choice

The bad

-sunbeds could be cleaner. A beach towel. A large one. Is a must. The water is not very deep and you have to walk almost 100m in to reach 1.5-1.7m depth. It is good for kids but can get anoying for those that want to swim
