Artogōniá — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

I’m so glad this place was within walking distance from our hotel when on holiday in Zakynthos. We had the chance to visit a few times and taste a range of their delicious pastries, both savoury and sweet. We topped it off with their speciality, the Mille Feuille, which is out of this world. This was recommended to us by (we think) the owner and she was so kind to have it ready for us at breakfast the next day. The girls working there are also so friendly and welcoming, and the little one (daughter of owner we suppose) is adorable serving and describing the various pastries, and she does it in a very good English too. We tried the spinach börek and cookies, and they truly tasted delicious and fresh. The börek was a bit on the oily side, so I thought a lighter version might be even better. Still, overall we were very pleased. The staff were very kind and their attentiveness and warmth made for a pleasant experience.

However, during my stay in Zakynthos, it saddened me deeply to see the poor condition of the stray cats. Many were hungry, sick, and dehydrated. I believe that this business, along with others, could make a small but meaningful difference by leaving out clean water or some food for these animals. Amazing bakery, amazing staff, great coffee and cakes! We came here every day throughout our holiday as a morning ritual. We were always greeted with a smile regardless of how busy they are. It is a family run bakery and it's a joy to see everyone working in such a harmony. Every morning I'd ask what they recommend we try this time and they will select a few options for us. We once came in the evening and wanted to take a small bite, chose a fruity cake but were told to take something else as these were not the freshest they had.
