Acrópolis Maya — Hotel in Copán

The sleeping rooms are OK, they are spacious and they look clean at a first glace. I found cock roaches in the bathroom and the shower and the toilet clogged during our stay. ||The real problem is the hotel manager, very dishonest man. He was very pushy to sell us the Luna Jaguar Spa entrances. He told us we had to purchase them that morning and wouldn't be able to buy them on the spot. Since we were 6 in total I didn't want to make a fuss out of it and just purchased the entrances. He asked 500 Lempiras (about 18 US dollars) per person. He specified that 300 Lempiras where for the entrance and 200 for the transportation. The truth is both the hotel manager and our tour guide (which turns out is NOT a certified Tour Guide- just yet another scam) where collaborating to keep the extra 200 Lempiras. We already had our vehicle but the hotel manager made me believe a different vehicle would transport us to the Spa, and argued that our driver wouldn't be able to take us in his vehicle because the road was not paved. It turns out we never changed vehicles to get to the SPA and upon our return I confronted the hotel manager to ask about that transportation service we paid extra 200 lempira for. He confessed the 200 Lempira where our Tour Guide's idea. This man is willing to rip you off and therefore I cannot recommend you staying there.||Otherwise the location is good and the view from the terrace is nice. El Hotel Acropolis Maya, al inicio me gusto, pero luego de mi mala experiencia en la primera noche todo cambio, el lugar es limpio y muy céntrico, tiene parqueo, hasta ahí todo bien. Con mi pareja llegamos al medio día y a pesar de llegar antes de la hora nos dieron la habitación, y eso nos permitió ir a conocer el pueblo, fuimos a varios lugares geniales de los que hablare en otras reseñas de cada lugar, y entre las 10.30 y 11.00 de la noche decidimos regresar al hotel para descansar, pero nuestra sorpresa fue que al querer abrir nuestra habitación, no lo podiamos hacer porque desde adentro habian puesto la cadenita de seguridad de la puerta, y entonces encendí la linterna de mi celular y para mi sorpresa había un hombre dormido en una de las camas de la habitación, y dentro estaban todas nuestras cosas. Fui a buscar al encargado del hotel (diferente al que nos recibio por la mañana) para decirle que había una persona en nuestra habitación y qué pasaba, al llegar él intento abrir y por supuesto no pudo y comenzó a llamar para que la persona que estaba dentro abriera, ( le pedimos que llamara a la policía porque ahí estaban nuestras cosas, él fue pero la policía le dijo que llegaría siempre y cuando se nos hubiera perdido algo) y costo que éste se despertará, al fin reaccionó y le dijimos que estaba en nuestra habitación y el decía que era la de él, cerro y dijo que haría una llamada y luego salio y vimos que estaba muy alcoholizado y pidiendo disculpas porque estaba en nuestra habitación, le pedí al del hotel que se fijara de qué habitación era él porque revisariamos nuestras cosas, que fue muy molesto ver nuestra ropa tirada en el suelo, había tirado la cortina de la habitación, y al revisar se había llevado nuestros cargadores de celular y se tuvo que ir a buscarlo a su habitación para que nos los devolviera y por su estado de ebriedad costo que abriera su habitación y decia que no se los había llevado, pero si los tenía en su pantalón.||Pero lo que más me molestó es que el encargado del hotel dijo que eso paso porque no habíamos cerrado bien nuestra habitación, lo cual no era cierto, y tan es así que el intruso ni llave tenía, su actitud lejos de respondernos como sus huéspedes fue acusarnos del incidente que por su falta de seguridad y control en el hotel paso. No nos ofrecieron ninguna disculpa, menos un descuento o incentivo por el mal momento que pasamos. El día siguiente se lo comentamos al encargado del hotel que nos recibio y dio la habitación y nos preguntó que cómo paso y le contamos y él fue más honesto al decir, que por el estado de embriaguez del huésped éste ha de ver pedido que le abrieran nuestra habitación pensando que era la de él y alguien del hotel se la abrió pensando que era su habitación y así pudo entrar, porque el no andaba ninguna llave y nosotros si habíamos cerrado, lo cual dice mucho del hotel que no tienen un control de los huéspedes en que habitación esta cada quien y que cualquiera puede entrar diciendo que es su habitación y robar todo lo de la habitación.||Por todo lo anterior, no recomiendo dicho hotel y además, no hay un control en el ruido que ocasionan los demás huéspedes, por lo que no se puede descansar en dicho lugar. This is a beautiful, well maintained little hotel just off the main plaza. The room was very clean, with a little balcony and it's own bathroom, hot shower and great AC. When a grasshopper showed up, wanting to crash for the night, the desk clerk came right up and removed it. It was quite entertaining watching him chase "Pedro" around with a broom. I enjoyed 4 very restful nights there. The hotel has what must be the best views in Copan, from my room, from the lounge on the 2nd floor and best of all, from the rooftop patio! There is no breakfast or coffee but a great coffee shop across the street and many little cafes to explore. I am a senior citizen from Milwaukee who had never been more than 10 miles south of the border before this trip. My daughter and her family came with me to Copan for a family wedding. Because I booked late, there were no vacancies at the hotels where other members of our group stayed. I was very comfortable staying by myself at Hotel Acropolis Maya.
