We came to this pool because we were camping and thought we'd get a better shower at a public pool than on campgrounds. We were very disappointed and later learned that every campground shower was much better than the service provided here (more showers, better water, etc.). This place was, sadly, the only negative experience of an otherwise lovely trip!
We tried to buy one shower for me and a shower+pool entry for my husband, since we only had one set of some toiletries, so we could take turns and he could swim while we waited. The man at the cash register had extreme difficulty understanding what we were ordering; I repeated my order at least four times, and he only rang us up for two showers. At this point my husband, not wanting to cause a fuss, said he didn't need the pool admission, and would just wait.
I took a shower. The water pressure was VERY low, and it took me some time. You couldn't change the water temperature, and you had to re-press the button what felt like every thirty seconds to get more water. It took me a little longer than usual between these factors (I have long, thick hair so getting conditioner out of hair took a long time with the low water pressure), and I guess my husband got cold and absent-mindedly went into the hot tub, forgetting he had not been allowed to buy pool admission too. Absent-minded of him, yes, but he would definitely have paid had he been reminded to do so, as it was a difference of $3 that would have meant nothing to us.
Nobody said anything to him about it, but instead, when I was done and found him and gave him the shower supplies, I guess the man at the register who had refused to sell him pool admission despite us asking for it four times followed him in and screamed at him in public while he was showering that he was an awful person with no respect for anyone. It took him awhile to even figure out what the problem was--he never even told him that there was a problem with payment (we ourselves remembered that after we left, and wondered, was that part of the problem? But the staff member certainly did not make that clear either way.). He instead screamed at him, poorly comprehensibly, about my husband wearing clean flip flops in the shower area.
Couple of things with that: 1) I would not be comfortable showering in a public area without shoes, as athlete's foot is a bacteria that dwells in areas that stay wet (public showers are a major culprit) and is quite unpleasant to get. The facility was decently clean, but did not look clean enough that I would be comfortable going barefoot. With that said, the flip flops we both wore were clean and were specifically only used for showering during our trip. I also wore flip flops and had no idea there was a problem with this, as the girl who came to the women's shower to check on things said nothing to me about it. However, the man followed my husband and apparently screamed at him and called him names because of it.
Regardless of the merit of keeping flip flops on in public showers to avoid athlete's foot -- the way the cashier handled his problem was completely unacceptable. Most places, both in Iceland and in other places we travel, if someone has a problem with us they politely tell us, and we always are accommodating to a resolution. This man coming up to my husband and screaming at him in front of others while he is unclothed and showering that he is a terrible person is just about the worst way of handling any problem I have heard of in a very long time. This place needs to re-train its staff, at a minimum. Better kept facilities would also be nice: they were adequate, but not particularly comfortable or well-designed. Very small, cramped, and the showers were worse than any campground showers I saw. The best thing the facility had going for it was the sauna, but certainly not worth dealing with poor showering facilities and...
Read moreWe arrived at 7:07pm and were surprised to find out that the pool would be closing at 7:30pm (which meant everyone needed to be out by 7:15pm). The hours were different from what was posted on the website and on Google. Please make sure to call ahead of time because the pool needed to be closed early due to "illness in staff" - the normal cost is 1250kr each for the swimming pool which we were not able to use. We were charged 800kr each for using the showers and needed to be done within 20min. I think in this situation it would have been courteous to not charge us the price of a rushed shower. We also thought we could fill up our water bottles here (Nalgene sized) but the sinks were too low - we should have filled up at Kronan which has excellent water bottle filling stations (the same kind as you might find in...
Read moreIf you're on the road, backpacking or camper-vanning, and need a place to shower and clean up - this is the place to stop off and enjoy. The warm pool was what enticed us to make it a stop for us along our Ring Road road trip, and it was great. There is an N1 just around the corner, and a rainbow bouncy build in next door! (just as fun for adults as it is for the kids its designed for). It was 600isk per person, reasonable for pool entry, sauna entry and showers with soap/shampoo. Just be aware that you are in Europe, and there are no dividers in the showers.. embrace your nakedness because the only person who cares is you! You will have to shower (nude) prior to jumping in the pools (which range from not heated, to 41c), but it is totally worth it....
