The Joshi Museum of Miniature Railways is a hidden gem in Pune and a must-visit for train enthusiasts, families, and anyone fascinated by intricate craftsmanship. Tucked away in the Erandwane area, this museum is a tribute to one man's passion for railways and the art of miniature modeling.

As you step inside, you're greeted by an astonishing display of a working railway system—miniature trains moving through detailed landscapes complete with tunnels, bridges, and stations. The attention to detail is remarkable. Every element, from the houses and trees to the bustling town squares and industrial areas, has been meticulously crafted. The trains themselves, some as small as a few inches, move seamlessly through the display, controlled by an interactive system. The lighting and sound effects add an immersive experience, making you feel like you’re watching a real railway in action, only in miniature form.

What truly stands out is how the museum appeals to people of all ages. Children are captivated by the moving trains and colorful displays, while adults can appreciate the craftsmanship and the effort that went into creating such a detailed model. The educational aspect is also strong—there are informative descriptions explaining the workings of railways, the history behind them, and how the model is operated.

While the museum is compact, you can easily spend a couple of hours here, marveling at the details and learning something new. The staff is friendly and passionate, often sharing anecdotes about the founder, B.S. Joshi, and his lifelong dedication to building this miniature marvel.

This is a very good museum to see in Pune. Good for all age people and must visit for children. They have created a miniature city. This is first of such a kind in India. They have shown many things which are usually found in a modern city. But main emphasis is on railways. In this miniature city we can see replica of railway tracks, railway station, small railways, highways, buildings, vehicles on road, garden, playing ground, circus tent, driving theater, factories, a hill and a tunnel etc. In all together it make a modern city. Replica of different types of railways like steam railway, TGV train, monorail, funicular trains, bullet trains are created appropriately. All these trains we can see running during the show. It was very nice to see the train passing through the tunnel. It is a 25 minutes show. We can hear commentary either in English or in Marathi. Light and sound effect is very nice. They have taken a lot of efforts and made this wonderful artwork. Entry fees: ₹ 120/- per person. Atleast 4 person should be there to start the show. Photography: Allowed.

A miniature railway museum - a treasure trove of knowledge re. Railways! Such miniature railway museums are more prominent and followed in Western countries. Joshi's Museum of Miniature Railways, located in Pune, puts India on the global map of such museums. The attention to detail in building up the railway model is simply astounding. The model itself is spread over an area of nearly 90-100 sq feet, and thus provides ample scope to showcase the minutiae of railways. These includes the engines, bogies, platforms, tunnels, landscapes, electric lines, nearby buildings, roads, water tanks, a circus tent and merry-go-round, a giant balloon, and what-not. Indeed, they have done a fantastic job, building up such a detailed model. They also have a show lasting about 15 minutes, wherein the train goes around the model, which is a treat to watch. The ticket price is quite reasonable too. I guess it makes far more sense to take kids out to visit this museum, than to some movie. If you happen to visit Pune, do make it a point to visit this museum.
