Sarangnath Shiv Temple in Sarnath is an ancient and spiritually significant temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located close to the famous Buddhist sites, this temple beautifully reflects the harmony of India’s diverse spiritual traditions. The temple is said to be associated with the Sarangnath form of Lord Shiva and holds great importance among devotees, especially during Shivratri and the month of Shravan when large crowds gather to offer prayers.

The architecture of the temple is simple yet historic, with stone carvings and an old-world charm that connects visitors to the spiritual heritage of the region. The sanctum houses the Shiva Linga, where devotees perform rituals and offer water, milk, and bel leaves. The atmosphere inside the temple feels peaceful and divine, making it a perfect place for meditation and inner reflection.

The temple surroundings are generally clean and well-maintained, though during peak festival times, it can get crowded. Local shops outside sell puja items and prasad for visitors. Accessibility is easy, as it is located close to Sarnath’s main tourist attractions. Overall, Sarangnath Shiv Temple is a must-visit for those seeking a deeper spiritual experience in Sarnath, blending devotion with the town’s ancient...

A must visit if visiting Sarnath, few steps away from Sarnath station. One of the ancient places of Varanasi, and perhaps Sarangnath reduced to Sarnath as we know today.

According to folk tales when brother of Devi Sati, sage Sarang got to know that Mahadev and Devi are residing in Varanasi he meditated on this place in anticipation of their darshan. Evidently Sarang Muni got to meet Mahadev, hence the name Sarangnath Mahadev Mandir.

The place is calm and serene. It has an aura which pulls...

Mahadev Sarangnath shiv temple is near sarnath station, baraipur, Sarnath. Two deities inside the temple. One is mahadev and the other his brother in law sage sarangnath, being represented by two shivling. This is a religious place. It is believed that the sarnath name originated from this temple. Sarangnath means lords of deer. Here the environment is calm and serene. The temple is near the sarang kund (pond). The temple is very clean. Must visit place.
