Sarnath Deer Park, located just behind the Mulagandha Kuti Vihar in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, is a site of profound historical and spiritual significance. It is revered as the place where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon, marking the inception of the Buddhist Sangha. The park's name, 'Mrigadava' or 'Isipatana', reflects its ancient identity as a sanctuary for deer, symbolizing peace and compassion. Attractions and Features : Established in 1956, the park spans 33 acres and serves both as a spiritual site and a mini-zoo aimed at educating visitors about wildlife conservation. It houses over 90 spotted deer and six blackbucks that roam freely in a natural environment. Visitors can also observe a variety of other animals, including emus, crocodiles, turtles, and birds like white-necked storks and pelicans.

A notable feature is the large water body on the north side of the park, where boating facilities are available, providing a serene experience amidst nature.

Visitor Information Timings: The park is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Entry Fee: ₹20 for Indian nationals and ₹50 for foreign nationals.

Accessibility: Located approximately 2 km from Sarnath Railway Station and 8 km from Varanasi Junction, the park is easily accessible by local transportation.

Visitor Experience: Visitors often describe the park as a peaceful retreat, ideal for relaxation and reflection. The lush greenery and the presence of deer contribute to a tranquil atmosphere. However, some reviews have pointed out concerns regarding the maintenance of animal enclosures and facilities. For instance, a visitor noted that the enclosures for birds and other animals were small and lacked...

This place is awesome. Sarnath is a small village in Uttar Pradesh, situated about 13 km north-east of the holy city of Varanasi. Formerly known as Isipatana, it is famous as the site where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma, or where Buddha preached his first sermon. It is also the place where the original Sangha was formed.

Visiting Timings:- Sarnath Museum remains open all days except friday from 9 in the morning to 5 in the evening.

Beautifully maintained and a peaceful place. One of the important place for those who believe in Buddhism. The entire place in and around this park is full of Buddha Bhagwan temples, which are interconnected. One can walk around the place and visit all parts of this holy site. Entry ticket is priced reasonably and photography is allowed to some extent. I liked to do meditation here, such a divine and happy place. It takes an hour to reach here from BHU, but traffic may delay you t. Must visit if...

Sarnath, also known as Sarang-nath, is one of the oldest heritage in Varanasi. It is around 7km from Varanasi Station and 8km from Varanasi International Airport. Sarnath is famous as a site where Gautam buddha first taught the dharma. Its has park, temple, and a museum. I would recommend you to plan your first in morning itself, as to roam and visit the complete area, one would certainly need a 1-2 days. If this bit of information helps you, consider upvoting my review. Thanks
