Istora Senayan — Attraction in Jakarta

Spending some time at Istora/Gelora Bung Karno stadium is never a waste! As there's always something new to see and feel at each visit, especially on the days where big events are held.

Not only can you do workout as always, even as small as taking a walk or playing sports at one particular spot that stands as your favorite, you can always enjoy the atmosphere here as simple as sipping tea, coffee, milk or eating your homemade foods or foods you buy from food trucks, sightseeing while observing what's new, and building up your motivation again to also invest your time in your workouts 😏.. I honestly had never seen food trucks around GBK and Istora until today. I'm not sure if it's because of a big event here or they're just opening lately in this month (I hadn't been out in a while, yo).

You may see some visitors are mask-less now since the government has allowed us to open our masks at public areas, as long as you're not in a relatively "small" space where people are gathered in one room and you find one or two people coughing or sneezing without covering their mouth and nose. Avoid them, seriously. Still bring and wear your mask, though, as some of the officers will require you to put your mask on. Otherwise, you will not be allowed around certain areas.

There has been Allobank Festival here at the stadium, one reason why it's quite more crowded than usual as jobseekers are competing to grab their place for 2000++ available vacancies. You'll also find some "good" people littering, so please be decent by not participating in this act. If you can't find a trash can nearby to throw away your garbage, please keep them in your bag and carry it/them with you until you find an available trash can.

When the stadium is crowded, it's "normal" for us to see most trans cans are already full.... some garbages are even "laying" around the street waiting to be "laid upon" appropriately. Also, please take the zebra cross to get across the street as it is a part of our learned discipline at public spaces. Some of us are so getting used to "taking the easy ways", that we're too lazy to consider saving ourselves from trouble. Fake it 'til you make it, okay?

Istora Gelora Bung Karno, an indoor sporting arena located in Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, Central Jakarta. Istora Gelora Bung Karno was renovated last year for Asian Games 2018 which was held in Jakarta and Palembang. Because of the renovation, the place became really nice. This arena usually used for badminton and basketball tournaments. Besides sports events, Istora was also used for concerts and a lot of other indoor occasions. The arena was easily accessible with MRT and Transjakarta Bus.

I was here on Thursday, July 18th, 2019 for a Badminton Championship known as Blibli Indonesia Open 2019. Istora Gelora Bung Karno was pretty spacious. The capacity of the arena was 7,166. One of the regulations was that you can not bring food and drinks inside the arena, because of that reason the place was very clean. I did buy some food outside the arena, there was a lot of good food that was offered. I was eating my meal when my friend went to the restroom. My friend told me that the restroom was clean and there was also a prayer room. When I went inside the arena, the seating area was comfortable because it was all brand new seating. Istora Gelora Bung Karno (singkatan dari Istana Olahraga Gelora Bung Karno, disebut pula Istora Senayan) adalah sebuah stadion olahraga tertutup yang berlokasi di dalam kompleks Gelanggang Olahraga Bung Karno di daerah Senayan, Jakarta Pusat. Kapasitas arena ini setelah renovasi dan dibuka kembali pada tahun 2018 adalah sebesar 7,166. Arena ini sering digunakan sebagai lokasi turnamen bulu tangkis. Acara perdananya adalah Piala Thomas 1961. Gedung olahraga ini digunakan sebagai kelengkapan sarana dan prasarana dalam rangka Pesta Olahraga Asia 1962. Istora dibuka sejak tanggal 21 Mei 1961 sebelum Piala Thomas 1961 yang diadakan di Jakarta. Arena ini direnovasi untuk menjadi tuan rumah Pesta Olahraga Asia 2018 dan Pesta Olahraga Difabel Asia 2018 Acara pertamanya pasca-renovasi adalah Indonesia Masters 2018. Selama Pesta Olahraga Asia 2018, Istora menjadi lokasi pertandingan bulu tangkis serta bola basket, sementara selama Pesta Olahraga Difabel Asia 2018, arena ini merupakan tuan rumah pertandingan bulu tangkis. Arena ini akan menjadi lokasi pertandingan pada Piala Dunia Bola Basket FIBA 2023, menjadikannya satu-satunya arena olahraga di Indonesia yang digunakan dalam kompetisi yang dilakukan di tiga negara tersebut. Istora, sampai dengan tahun 2016, memiliki lobi indoor. Lapangan dan tribun dalam arena ini dikelilingi oleh ruangan multi-fungsi.Seluruh fasilitas ini dihancurkan saat renovasi dilakukan di kemudian hari. Selain digunakan dalam Pesta Olahraga Asia, Pesta Olahraga Asia Tenggara dan Pekan Olahraga Nasional, gedung olahraga ini telah berkali-kali dipilih sebagai arena pertandingan olahraga yang memerlukan arena tertutup.
