Great stuff for people who like local/street food. We stayed at the Samaya Ubud and the Sayan night market is the only place in near walking distance (15min) where you can get authentic local food. It's crazy - when you check in the Samayah, people don't really expect you to go there. We are basically backpackers who have evolved into being able to check into better hotels, but we still like the south east asian real deal street food. One staff member even kind of tried to hold us back from going, as in he didn't want us to see the "real" indonesia and not wanting being ashamed of his country, which is a crazy mindset, but i'll write more on this in the review of the samaya. The problem with higher class south east asian hotels is that they westernize the local food to please westerners, so it ends up being just blend and tasteless. As sad as it is - eating in higher class hotels in SEA you are better off just ordering from the western menu. Anyways - we tried couple of stuff and our favorite was the "mie ayam bakso spesial" at the old lady in the middle which you can see on the photo. It is a tasty chicken soup with mie noodles (very nice consistency, almost like soba) with chicken meat balls, veggies and a fried egg on top. Cost was 50k for 2 people, 20k per soup and 5k per water, so roughly $ 3,30 which is...

A superb night market experience for me while i was in Ubud. A humble and clean night market filled with a mix of tourists as well as locals.
The environment was clean there were no flies around or near the food. However, take your own call on which selections are suitable for you.
Some of the notable stalls include:
The Ayam Geprek shop. The Ayam Geprek was spicy and tasty paired with the piping hot rice. Be prepared to immerse into the culture as the shop doesnât provide cutleries in this case. This was a 4/5 in-terms of taste for me.
The fried tempura store. Lots of variety when it comes to the tempura and corn dogs. Taste however was average for me and thus a 3/5.
Finally notably the best store was the nasi goreng store near the ayam geprek store. This store served fantastic food and the shopkeepers were really nice too. The nasi goreng was well fried and every grain had the right amount of flavours. Definitely a 5/5 for me.
Overall a good experience and would definitely visit this night market on...
Read moreItâs actually a pretty cool place to drop by. You can see where the locals shop and check out some of the food stalls. Most food are deep fried and may not have labels or signs so youâll have to ask. HOWEVER, hygiene might be a problem so if you a weak immune system/weak stomach, i would advise against it. My partner and I shared an Ayam Geprek and Es Teh and i came down with food poisoning afterwards. My partner had mild diarrhoea for awhile but no poisoning. I have a relatively weak stomach so partially my fault for wanting to be adventurous. The shopping side of it has an assortment of clothes, some tacky, but youâll find some hidden gems for very cheap prices. Theyâre also very nice, and not as persistent as the Ubud Art Market. Overall nice, small place to drop by, but be careful if you decide...
