Did a carcation ie used car as accomodation for one night in this lovely town so this review is more for the town of dungarvan than the castle. Had spent the sunny afternoon 30kms east of here in kilfarassy beach. Very pretty ,by the way. Parked the car beside dungarvan Castle with a lovely view over the bay. Then went for some food around.the corner at the quayside. Had a bit of a wait as the pub/restaurant was busy. Afterwards.strolled around the town and stopped into a little pub for a drink. Then slept.until.8 next morning. It was lovely to wake up to.the lovely view across the bay. Dungarvan is a pretty town with narrow streets, a nice square and a lovely view across the bay to the ring peninsula. People are warm and friendly. There are some nice strolls around. Several nice churches to visit, lots of nice places to eat although because it was midweek the town was quiet after 10.it is a historic town and played some role in the 1798 rebellion. Within an easy drive of the beautiful copper Coast to the east and picturesque ardmore and the cliff walk 10mins to the west. Also within very easy access of east Cork which includes youghal, garryvoe ,ballycotton Roches point and Cobh. Spent 2 lovely days here.

Fantastic piece of history right at the waters edge in Dungarvan. Although the buildings are closed to public in line with current covid restrictions, we were met by a lovely lady from OPW with a information leaflet. She gave us a quick rundown of the history of the castle from the Norman building right up until the final use as a garda station in 1987 when it closed. Had a walk around inside the walls. Would love to get a better look when things return to normal. Well worth a visit.

I would give it less stars if I had to pay for it BUT that’s unfair. It’s an Irish castle ruin. You’ve probably seen 100 of them. Some Are paid and less impressive or are more Commercial. This is free, being restored, and something to look At while you wait for your dinner reservations. For those expecting more in the mid county surrounded by restaurants galore, relax your expectations. But the small Tower floor room, I hope the host Events or something because it’s Cozy
