Right on the quay in Dungarvin harbour stands one of the best restaurants for Indian food I have run across in a long, long time. There is a lovely seating area outside if you wish to eat al-fresco but being a little chilly we went inside. The place inside was buzzing and we thought we might not get a seat. However after consulting their booking list the said they had a table. 😃 We both ordered drinks while perusing the menu and decided on the set meal for two at 37.95e. The starters were huge and we thought that they in it's self would be enough. 😊 However with the craic in the place, pleasant company and a few glasses of vino, we took our time and nibbled away. Time for the mains to arrive and we tucked in. Mine was a lamb madras and the sauce was perfection, spiced just the way I like it and the lamb just melted in your mouth. My companion had ordered a chicken korma which she declared was lovely. She could not finish it due to the large starters and when she was finished asked if the waiter if they could bag the remainder. Not a problem they said. The waiter service was first class and you only had to give them a nod and they were over to see what you required. We had a fantastic time and soon it was time to settle the bill. That done and dusted we were offered complementary drinks. So more wine. 😃. Outside the night had got milder so a nice walk around the harbour whick had lovely lights and the bridge lit up with a 🟣 light. Looked very continental and you would think you were in France. A perfect evening with a nice glow of contentment. Going back as...
Read moreOverall, service has been decent and I have been going there regularly for years. But..... For the last number of months, I have been disappointed more often than satisfied. Firstly, I like hot curries. The "heat" has been inconsistant, so-much-so that even the Vindaloo is of poor quality now. I'm also disappointed in the texture of the Chicken which is served. It's hard, like it's been reheated, and it does not have the texture that it was cooked over a hot coal barbeque. And as for the amount of times I have found chunks of potato in my curry - if I wanted Aloo Gobi, I'd have asked for it. The Pilau rice is always lumpy recently; like it has been pre-packed in the alumimium container and left under a heat lamp to keep warm. As for the vegetable curries, I dislike seeing the inner balk of an onion in a container with a few spoonfuls of vegetables covered in sauce. Perhaps that's not what's done; but it certainly tastes like that. We live in times when restaurants are struggling to survive, but serving sub-quality meals to the public because it's "takeaway only" simply isn't acceptable. The welcome by your front-of-house Manager is always respectful, but that's not enough when the food quality is well below par. Plenty of room for...
Read moreHad a really nice meal here on Christmas eve, the food was excellent - I had been there years ago and it was great and still great. The service was very friendly and the menu and choices were fabulous. I had an issue with one of the dishes and it was dealt with promptly and appropriately and was offered a replacement. Why 3 stars? It was so obvious they couldnt wait to kick us out. We get it, it's Christmas eve but don't open if you don't want to be open. There was a waiter hovering at our table and as soon as a fork was put down he would have the plate gone- my mum has dished herself some rice and some tikka masala, eaten it and paused before she dished herself some more- the plate was snatched from her and we had to tell the man to please go away and leave us enjoy our meal. He ignored this request and kept lurking around taking dishes of food that weren't finished and making us feel horribly uncomfortable. Etiquette states to allow all diners to complete their meal before cleaning but not in here. It was appalling. We asked for desert to be told then the kitchen was closed?! Who closes a kitchen without informing customers? Indian Ocean , keep doing what you are doing in the kitchen but please retrain your awful...
